Điện Biên farmers join non-monetized exchange of group work

ĐBP - On the morning of February 13, in Xuan Tuoi village, Muong Mun commune, the Farmers’ Association of Tuần Giáo District, in coordination with the local Youth Union and Women’s Union, launched the model “Promoting the Role of Collective Economy through Labor Exchange in Agricultural Sector Restructuring.”

Accordingly, all 158 macadamia cooperative groups in the district will establish labor exchange groups based on the following principles: Each group consists of 5 - 10 households, which may include family members within the same lineage; households with macadamia and coffee plantations located near each other; and households with similar plantation areas of macadamia and coffee.

The households participating in the model will agree on the number of participants from each family for each labor exchange session (either one or two members from each family), working in rotation from one household to another. In terms of labor exchange methods: Households will assist each other based on the number of working days, the number of planting holes, or a contractual basis.

At the same time, the Farmers’ Association, Youth Union, and Women’s Union of communes will coordinate with local authorities and community organizations to support and guide farmers in macadamia and coffee cultivation and care techniques. The focus will be on techniques such as planting, nursery preparation (for coffee), maintaining plantations, weeding, watering, pruning, fertilizing, pest and disease control, and addressing issues related to agricultural science and technology.

It is known that after the initial implementation in Mường Mùn Commune, the model will be expanded to 17 other communes, with simultaneous launches on February 14 and concluding on March 15. The Farmers’ Association, Youth Union, and Women’s Union of communes, along with local authorities and community organizations, will maintain the model regularly, continuously, and in a long-term manner.

The implementation of the model aims to successfully realize the agricultural restructuring policy set by the Tuần Giáo District’s Party Congress, with a focus on developing macadamia and coffee as key crops, contributing to making the district the macadamia capital of the country and achieving poverty reduction and sustainable development goals.

Additionally, the model seeks to raise awareness among officials, members, and residents of Tuần Giáo about harnessing potential, mobilizing resources, and aspiring to develop a green, clean, and sustainable agricultural sector, establishing model macadamia and coffee gardens across the district.
