Over the past years, under the attention and direction of the Party Central Committees and Governments of Việt Nam and China, along with close coordination between localities, the friendly and cooperative relations between Điện Biên province and Pu’er city, Yunnan province, have been continuously consolidated, developed, and achieved many positive results in various fields.

In particular, the 6th Annual Conference among the Secretaries of the provincial Party Committees and the 12th Session of the Joint Working Group between Lai Châu, Lào Cai, Tuyên Quang, and Điện Biên provinces of Việt Nam and Yunnan province, China, were highly successful. In the spirit of friendship, trust, and mutually beneficial cooperation, the parties reached many important common understandings and agreed on many strategic cooperation contents for the coming time.

Li Qingyuan, Secretary of the Pu’er municipal Party Committee, proposed: In the coming time, the two sides should continue to strengthen friendly exchanges and promote substantive cooperation in various fields; effectively implement the contents agreed upon between Pu’er city and Điện Biên province; expand people-to-people exchanges, step up cooperation in healthcare, education, and tourism, and coordinate to build a plan for organizing the series of activities for the “China - Việt Nam Tourism Cooperation Year”.

Speaking at the meeting, Trần Tiến Dũng provided information on the potentials, advantages, and outstanding results in the socio-economic development of Điện Biên province over the past time. Notably, the province organized the groundbreaking of component project 1 of the Sơn La - Điện Biên - Tây Trang expressway construction investment project (phase 1); the province has proactively attracted strategic investors to implement major projects in tourism, services, and resorts. At the same time, the province continues to prioritize investment resources to develop inter-regional transport infrastructure, routes connecting border gates, and economic zones, creating momentum to expand development space, enhance regional connectivity capacity, and promote international trade.

The Secretary of the Điện Biên provincial Party Committee proposed that Pu’er city continue to coordinate with Điện Biên province to complete the procedures for opening the A Pa Chải - Longfu bilateral border gate; strive to organize the announcement and opening ceremony as soon as possible, officially putting the A Pa Chải - Longfu bilateral border gate into operation; strengthen connections and create conditions for enterprises of both sides to cooperate in the processing and consumption of agricultural products; and promote import and export activities through the A Pa Chải - Longfu border gate.

The two sides will jointly research and promote the formation of border market zones and spots in the form of regular market sessions in the A Pa Chải - Longfu border gate area; effectively exploit opportunities from the “Việt Nam - China Tourism Cooperation Year 2026 - 2027”; and strengthen coordination in border management, the fight against cross-border crimes, and control of key areas and border gates.

Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Trần Tiến Dũng affirmed: Today’s meeting will open up new opportunities for cooperative relations and friendship between the two localities in the coming time. The agreed discussion contents will be seriously and effectively implemented by both sides, contributing to strengthening the friendship and cooperative relations between Điện Biên province and Pu’er city, Yunnan province, ensuring they develop increasingly deep, broad, and comprehensively.

Previously, the Điện Biên province delegation conducted surveys and learned from experiences at several community-based tourism models in Pu’er city.
