Điện Biên, Saint Petersburg strengthen cooperation

ĐBP - On the afternoon of March 13, Secretary of the Điện Biên provincial Party Committee Trần Quốc Cường hosted a reception for a delegation from Saint Petersburg of the Russian Federation, led by Kalganov Vyacheslav Gennadievic, Deputy Chairman of the Saint Petersburg Committee for External Relations.

During the meeting, Secretary Trần Quốc Cường expressed his pleasure at the increasingly strong and enduring traditional cooperation between Vietnam and Russia, particularly between Điện Biên and Saint Petersburg.

Welcoming the delegation to Điện Biên, he provided an overview of the province’s geographical position, strengths, and potential for agricultural production, forestry, tourism, and renewable energy development.

Secretary Trần Quốc Cường further shared that during Điện Biên’s delegation visit to Saint Petersburg in November 2024, both sides signed a cooperation agreement in the fields of trade, economy, science and technology, society, and humanities, marking a new chapter in their partnership.

Currently, Điện Biên has launched two Russian language classes for 40 students from 19 ethnic minority groups in the province. These students will be selected to participate in a summer camp exchange program with students from Saint Petersburg.

Secretary Trần Quốc Cường presents a Mông people’s traditional flute, known as the “khèn,” to Kalganov Vyacheslav Gennadievic.

Secretary Trần Quốc Cường  underlined that Điện Biên hopes to welcome domestic and international investors, especially those from Saint Petersburg, to explore cooperation and investment opportunities, particularly in tourism, trade, education, and investment sectors. The province also looks forward to hosting Russian tourists, further materializing the commitments outlined in the signed cooperation agreement.

Speaking at the meeting, Kalganov Vyacheslav Gennadievic emphasized that Saint Petersburg highly values its partnership with Điện Biên. He affirmed that Điện Biên's visit to Saint Petersburg in November 2024 was of great significance, as it marked the twinning of the two localities. He expressed hope for a deepened and long-lasting cooperation between the two sides.

On this occasion, Secretary Trần Quốc Cường extended an invitation to Kalganov Vyacheslav Gennadievic and the delegation to attend the 2025 Ban (Bauhinia) Flower Festival and the 8th Điện Biên Ethnic Culture, Sports, and Tourism Festival.
