Young people’s energy lights up youth month

ĐBP - March - the month of youths - always brings with it the vibrant spirit of volunteerism and community action. Kicking off a series of activities marking this year’s youth month, a rural lighting project in Cây Sổ hamlet, Mường Nhé commune, has been inaugurated and put into operation.

The project stretches about 700 meters and cost a total of VND 25 million. The new lighting system helps residents travel more safely and conveniently at night, while contributing to a fresh look for rural areas in this still-challenging border region.

In Nà Hỳ commune, the Nậm Nhừ Border Post joined forces with the Hồ Chí Minh Communist Youth Union chapter of the commune to organize various activities in response to youth month, tied to the “March on border” program. Aimed at supporting disadvantaged students in border areas, the units presented 30 gift packages to students of Nậm Nhừ Semi-Boarding Primary and Secondary School for Ethnic Minority Students. Another 10 gifts were given to children supported under the “Godparent - Connecting love” program, while two additional scholarships were awarded through the “Stepping to school” initiative.

Holding the gift she received, Giàng Thị Hiền, a student from class 6A2 at Nậm Nhừ Semi-Boarding Primary and Secondary School for Ethnic Minority Students, shared her joy: “My family still faces many difficulties. My parents work in the fields, so my studies often lack the things I need. Receiving gifts from the border guards and youth volunteers makes me very happy. I will try my best to study well and live up to everyone’s care and support.”

Beyond supporting students, young members of the Nậm Nhừ Border Post have also carried out practical youth projects to serve local residents. Among them is the “Lighting up the border area” project stretching more than one kilometer in Huổi Lụ 3 hamlet, Nà Hỳ commune. They also handed over a clothes-drying rack facility for boarding students at Nậm Nhừ Semi-Boarding Primary and Secondary School for Ethnic Minority Students.

Nearly 100 officers, soldiers and youth union members in Nà Hỳ commune also launched an environmental clean-up campaign, collecting waste and clearing brush along inter-commune roads, helping improve the landscape while raising public awareness about environmental protection.

Tao Thị Hường, Secretary of the Youth Union and President of the Vietnam Youth Federation in Nà Hỳ commune, said the youth month and border March programs have created a vibrant atmosphere of emulation among youth union members while promoting their pioneering, volunteer and creative spirit. Through specific activities, the Youth Union has also stepped up communications on national border sovereignty, raising awareness and responsibility among youth union members, teenagers and local residents in building, managing and firmly safeguarding territorial sovereignty.

Not only in Nà Hỳ, many localities across the province are actively organizing activities in response to youth month. Youth Union chapters at all levels have intensified political and ideological education for youth union members while organizing volunteer activities for the community, such as tree planting, environmental clean-ups and clearing rural roads to help build greener, cleaner and more beautiful surroundings.

During the first week of youth month, the Standing Committee of the provincial Youth Union coordinated a career counseling and job placement conference for more than 500 youth union members in Mường Nhé commune. On this occasion, 30 gifts were presented to disadvantaged students striving in their studies at Mường Nhé High School, with a total value exceeding VND 70 million. The provincial Military Youth Union also donated 425 kilograms of rice to disadvantaged residents in border areas, cleared five kilometers of rural roads and planted 100 ban flowers, contributing to environmental improvements and supporting local livelihoods.

Public communication during this year’s youth month has been implemented in a coordinated and effective manner by Youth Union chapters at all levels. In addition to traditional media channels such as newspapers, television and the provincial Youth Union’s website, communication via social media platforms like Facebook and Zalo has been strengthened, helping widely spread the spirit and significance of youth volunteer movements to youth union members and the broader community.

According to Mùa Chiến Thắng, Secretary of the provincial Youth Union and President of the Vietnam Youth Federation in Điện Biên province, youth month is a wide-ranging political activity for young people, helping rekindle pride in the 95-year tradition of the Hồ Chí Minh Communist Youth Union.

Through practical initiatives, youth union members continue to demonstrate their pioneering, volunteer and creative spirit in contributing to socio-economic development, national defense and security, and improving people’s livelihoods, especially in mountainous and border areas.

From youth projects and social welfare initiatives to environmental protection campaigns, each activity carries practical significance. Together, they help create the vibrant spirit of youth month across Điện Biên province, spreading the aspiration to contribute and the love for the homeland and the country among young people.
