Not only focusing on doing business to build a stable family economy, he is also willing to share his personal interests and concur with the local general policy, becoming one of the leading households in land clearance work to serve the construction of the road from National Highway 279 to Mánh Đanh village.
The wooden stilt house of Lò Văn Xích’s family is located right next to the village road axis. Previously, the wide front yard was the common living space for the whole family, as well as a place to dry paddy, gather agricultural products, and serve as a play space for his children and grandchildren. Looking out from the porch today, that portion of land has been handed over to widen and upgrade the roadbed.
Lò Văn Xích’s family has six members, with three generations living together. Having been attached to this land for many years, every square meter is associated with the family’s hard work and memories. Therefore, when the project for the road from National Highway 279 to Mánh Đanh village in the former Ẳng Cang commune (now Mường Ảng commune) was deployed, the front yard area of about 100 square meters falling under reclamation gave him much to ponder. However, after being disseminated and specifically explained by local authorities regarding the purpose and significance of the project, he gradually understood clearly and came to the decision to voluntarily hand over the land.
“We lose a little in the short term, but the long-term benefits are immense,” shared Lò Văn Xích. “Once the road is finished, trading and animal husbandry will be more convenient, and it will be less arduous for our children and grandchildren to travel and attend school.”
That decision did not come from an impulse but was the result of a process of weighing short-term and long-term benefits. As an experienced person, he understands that transport infrastructure is an important condition for economic development. When the road is widened, the circulation of goods and trade will become more favorable, creating opportunities for residents to raise their incomes.
Speaking about the exemplary nature of Lò Văn Xích in land clearance work, Head of the Economic Division of Mường Ảng commune Bùi Bằng Huy stated: “Lò Văn Xích is one of the model households in Cói Bánh village, complying well with the land reclamation policy while actively disseminating and mobilizing other households in the village to follow suit. His family’s voluntary handover of land has created a spreading effect, contributing to untangling bottlenecks during the project implementation process.”
Not only leading the way in implementing the general policy, Lò Văn Xích is also known as a good production and business farmer in the locality. Turning to account the advantages of land availability and family labor, he develops the economy in an integrated direction, combining animal husbandry with small-scale trading, bringing a stable source of income.
Currently, his family maintains a grocery store right at home, serving the essential needs of the villagers. Thanks to his reputation in trading and sincere service, the store always has a stable volume of customers. In addition, he invests in animal husbandry with three reproductive buffaloes, two cows, a pair of breeding sows, and hundreds of poultry. The livestock are appropriately cared for, making good use of available food sources to both reduce costs and improve economic efficiency.
“Our reproductive buffalo herd is considered as ‘savings’; each year they give birth to additional calves, helping the family build a long-term accumulation source,” Lò Văn Xích shared enthusiastically. “Meanwhile, cows and poultry have also brought a faster revolving income. The breeding sows are well cared for, and selling piglets each year contributes significantly to increasing our revenue.”
Thanks to knowing how to calculate and working diligently, the economy of Lò Văn Xích’s family is stable, and their standard of living is increasingly raised. Not only providing for his family, he also actively shares production experiences with villagers, contributing to driving the local economic development movement.
