From swimming lessons and cultural or artistic activities to reading hours, these engaging playgrounds bring immense joy, helping them develop comprehensively in physical health, mentality, and life skills.
One of the most anticipated summer activities for children living at the provincial General Social Protection Facility is the free swimming class organized by the Sports Training Center under the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism. Fifteen children from the facility are participating in this practical course, with the facility’s staff and employees escorting them to the swimming pool for practice every day.
Although initially unfamiliar and hesitant when entering the water, the children quickly learned how to float and execute basic swimming strokes under the dedicated guidance of the center’s coaches, becoming much more confident in the water environment.
“Teachers guided us very whole-heartedly. At first, I was a bit afraid of the water, but now I know how to swim,” shared Giàng A Sàng, 11 years old. “I love swimming and splashing around in the water. Every day I go to the swimming pool is full of joy.”
Beyond offering hours of entertainment, the summer swimming class helps equip these children with vital drowning prevention skills.
After their physical activities in the water, the children also participate in various cultural and artistic initiatives tailored to their preferences and ages. This summer, the provincial Culture and Cinema Center has coordinated with the facility to host classes in dancing, singing, and hosting skills. The facility also maintains a bookcase to serve entertainment and knowledge-seeking needs, while concurrently organizing drawing and handicraft activities. Many products crafted by the children themselves are utilized in the unit’s programs, creating a strong motivation for the little ones to confidently participate.
The summer break is also a time when the provincial General Social Protection Facility places great emphasis on fostering life skills for the children. Since the majority of them come from special backgrounds, shaping independence is prioritized as a top objective. The older children are assigned on a rotating basis to support the nutrition department in preparing daily meals. From picking vegetables, washing rice, and pre-processing food to cleaning up after meals, each task contributes to forming a sense of self-service and collective responsibility.
“During the summer vacation, I head down to the kitchen to help the staff pick vegetables, wash rice, wash dishes, cook simple meals, and neatly arrange utensils,” recounted Vàng Thị Dùa, 13 years old. “I find these tasks very easy to perform, helping me learn how to look after myself and assist everyone else.”
The diverse activities organized throughout the summer have brought the children at the facility many fresh and meaningful experiences. Alongside educational and recreational activities, the facility creates favorable conditions for them to maintain family bonds, allowing many children to visit their families and relatives during the summer. Although these reunions are brief, they bring immense joy and extra motivation for the children to study and train with peace of mind.
The provincial General Social Protection Facility is currently nurturing 79 children and youth from ethnic minority backgrounds who lack an external source of support. To them, the facility is a true family where they are cared for, educated, and raised within the love of the staff and employees.
“Every summer, the unit formulates plans to organize multiple activities appropriate for the children’s ages,” stated Trần Thị Tươi, Director of the provincial General Social Protection Facility. “We want them to enjoy a cheerful, safe summer filled with opportunities to play, learn, and cultivate essential life skills.”
Swimming hours, talent classes, reading corners, or moments spent preparing meals together have collectively created a deeply meaningful summer under the shared shelter of the facility. Through these practical initiatives, the children gain more opportunities for comprehensive development, life skill refinement, and confidence, step-by-step building a solid foundation for their future.
