Marking Điện Biên Phủ Victory through inspirational posters

ĐBP - The Điện Biên Phủ Victory has been etched into national history as an eternal epic, one that “resounded across five continents and shook the earth.”

Over the past 72 years, the spirit of that triumph has been preserved not only in history books and the memories of witnesses but also vividly recreated through a specialized artistic medium: promotional posters. With their bold color palettes, decisive shapes, and clear messages, these artworks deeply portray the magnitude and historical significance of the victory.

Posters are placed along major routes in Điện Biên Phủ and Mường Thanh wards.

As the province approaches the 72nd anniversary of the Điện Biên Phủ Victory (May 7, 1954 - 2026), the main roads in the heart of Điện Biên are more vibrant than ever. Systems of promotional posters line the streets, blending with red flags and slogans fluttering in the sunlight. The urban landscape has taken on a new appearance that is both bright and solemn, awakening a sense of pride and reminding modern generations of a heroic chapter in the nation’s history.

Veteran Đoàn Trọng Mật, visiting from Bắc Ninh province, shared his emotion at how these posters capture the “fire and bullets” atmosphere of the past. To him, every image and color vividly recreates the courageous fighting spirit and resilient will of his ancestors. This not only evokes profound pride but also serves as a reminder for today’s generation to cherish and preserve the sacred historical values for which previous generations sacrificed their lives.

These artworks awaken pride and remind youths of the value of peace.

Each poster is a slice of memory, silently recounting the unforgettable years of the nation’s journey. Every line and hue contains stories of sacrifice, bravery, and the faith in ultimate victory. Beyond recreating history, these works send a profound lesson to today’s youth regarding gratitude, the will to rise, and the responsibility to protect the peace that was bought with blood and bone. Quàng Văn Đạt, from Búng Lao commune, noted that behind the lines and colors are silent messages that remind the current generation of the true value of peace.

Beyond their historical message, these promotional art activities enrich the cultural and spiritual life of the community. For many visitors and locals, history is no longer confined to dry textbook pages but becomes intimate and visual. For the younger generation specifically, promotional art acts as a “bridge” to help them understand the immense sacrifices made. Patriotism and national pride are nurtured naturally through these evocative images, forming a foundation for the desire to contribute to the nation’s development.

According to artist Lê Văn Ninh, each poster helps preserve historical memory, such as iconic depictions of soldiers pulling artillery during the campaign.

Artist Lê Văn Ninh, Deputy Head of the Provincial Fine Arts Association, believes that posters regarding the Điện Biên Phủ Victory feature a concise and impactful graphic style that clearly reflects the creator’s intent. Each work aims for visual effectiveness while helping to preserve historical memory. Over time, even as styles evolve, the value of promotional art remains intact. It is a “visual memory” of a glorious period, continuing to tell stories of the past and lighting up faith and responsibility in every citizen.
