“Green Weekend” in Na Sang

ĐBP - Not just a community labor activity, “Green Weekend” in Na Sang is becoming a deep and wide political campaign, demonstrating the spirit of solidarity and high determination of the entire political system in implementing a major local policy. The slogan “Promoting the Điện Biên Phủ spirit - National solidarity - Determination to develop coffee and macadamia into flagship products” has been concretized by Na Sang through specific actions with the sense of responsibility of each official, party member, and resident.

In the weekends of mid-May, under the early summer sun, the sounds of laughter mingled with the clinking of hoes and shovels echoed across the hillsides of Na Sang commune. Groups of officials, youth union members, and armed forces soldiers worked alongside local people to dig holes for planting coffee and macadamia. The youth union’s blue shirts, the soldiers’ uniforms, and the figures of local residents stretched along the hillsides in the vibrant atmosphere of the “Green Weekend” at the grassroots level.

The “Green Weekend” was institutionalized based on the spirit of Resolution No.09-NQ/ĐU of the commune Party Committee on the development of coffee and macadamia trees. To create consensus and spread a deep emulation atmosphere among the entire population, the commune’s Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee launched an appeal, calling on all officials, public employees, workers, youth union members, association members, and the armed forces in the area to actively support residents in digging holes and preparing land for planting.

Following the exemplary spirit, the team of commune officials and public employees proactively arranged their professional work, spending at least two weekend days heading to the grassroots level to support disadvantaged and lonely households in digging holes.

According to the plan, Na Sang commune strives to dig 713,800 holes, including 700,000 holes for coffee and 13,800 holes for macadamia, corresponding to an area of 200 hectares. Through reviews, the entire commune currently has over 130 hectares eligible for coffee and macadamia cultivation across 11 villages, including Huổi Chua, Hồ Chim 1, Hồ Chim 2, Nậm Chim, Sa Lông 1, Sa Lông 2, village 36, residential group 2, Huổi Xuân, Huổi Xưa, and Na Sang.

Director of the General Service Center of Na Sang commune Nguyễn Xuân Trưởng shared that to ensure effective implementation, the center proactively coordinated with specialized units to step up dissemination and technical guidance on planting and caring for coffee and macadamia trees for local residents. Prior to the launch date on April 3, multiple technical training classes were organized for officials, public employees, and households participating in tree planting.

“The most precious thing is the spirit of determination and unanimity of officials and people,” shared Nguyễn Xuân Trưởng. “Despite many difficulties, everyone identifies this as an important political task and a long-term development direction to raise income for residents, so everyone makes efforts and is determined to complete it.”

To create a strong transformation from awareness to action, Na Sang commune established Groups to stick closely to the villages, going to every alley and knocking on every door to disseminate and mobilize the people. Not only explaining the long-term economic benefits of coffee and macadamia trees compared to traditional crops, members of the Groups also directly provided hands-on guidance on technical hole digging, planting distance, and soil improvement.

The review of poor households, lonely households, and those lacking labor was quickly carried out by the commune to arrange timely support forces. The spirit of “leaving no one behind” was clearly shown in each specific task, from supporting labor days to mobilizing machinery for hole digging.

Determined not to delay the seasonal schedule, forces took advantage of every dry day to accelerate progress. Many mass organizations mobilized members and youth union members to contribute labor days for disadvantaged families. Right on the first day of the launch on April 3 in Huổi Xuân village, the commune mobilized nearly 270 people to participate in digging holes. Afterward, the armed forces continued to be reinforced alongside 13 excavators to support residents in Huổi Xuân, Huổi Xưa, Na Sang cluster 2, Huổi Chua, and Sa Lông 1 villages.

At many deployment points, the sense of responsibility and atmosphere took place vibrantly. Group No.7, with Deputy Secretary of Na Sang commune Youth Union Lò Văn Đỉnh acting as deputy head, was assigned to support eight households with a total area of over 4.5 hectares. On the afternoon of May 16, despite the rain, Group No.7, consisting of 45 people including officials, public employees, youth union members, and teachers of Na Sang High School, gathered early at village 36 to support the family of Giàng A Khua, a poor household in the village, in digging holes to plant trees. Within more than three hours, the group completed 850 holes on an area of over one hectare, helping the family keep up with the planned planting schedule.

With the drastic involvement of the entire political system, by May 17, Groups across Na Sang commune had dug 371,043 planting holes. Many locations achieved 100% of their assigned targets, such as Huổi Chua (cluster 1), Huổi Xuân, Huổi Xưa (cluster 1), village 36, Sa Lông 1, Sa Lông 2, Hồ Chim 1 (cluster 2), and Na Sang (cluster 2) villages.

These numbers not only reflect the progress of the work but also show the strong spread of the “Green Weekend” movement in the community. From a major policy of the commune, the movement has truly become a voluntary and responsible action of each official, party member, and resident.

“Green Weekend” in Na Sang is not merely days of collective labor, but a vivid proof of the spirit of national solidarity, the will to overcome difficulties, and the desire for change in lands that still face many hardships. Each tree hole dug is also a new hope sown on the sloping land, opening a sustainable development direction and stabilizing the lives of local people.

With the high determination of the entire political system, the consensus of the people, and the sense of responsibility of local forces, Na Sang commune is step-by-step realizing the goal of turning coffee and macadamia into flagship crops, creating a foundation for sustainable economic development in the coming years. The atmosphere of the “Green Weekend” days continues to spread strongly, becoming a driving force for the locality to successfully complete the major political tasks set forth.
