The “green chưng cakes and a season of kindness” program, jointly organized by NQT Quảng Ninh Trading and Construction Joint Stock Company, the provincial Women Entrepreneurs Club, the Điện Biên Sports Dance Passion Club and local benefactors, attracted a large number of volunteers. The activity helped spread a spirit of sharing and strengthen community bonds in the early days of 2026.
From early on, the venue was filled with a lively and cheerful atmosphere. Volunteers quickly got to work: some rinsed the glutinous rice and sorted green beans, others cleaned dong leaves, split bamboo strings and seasoned pork. Every step was carried out with care to ensure each finished chưng cakes was firm and neatly square. Laughter and friendly conversations made the year end chill feel warmer.
Over two days, more than 1,000 chưng cakes were wrapped and cooked to be delivered to children living at SOS Children’s Village Điện Biên Phủ, residents of the provincial Integrated Social Protection Center, patients in difficult circumstances at the dialysis hamlet, and many disadvantaged families across the area. Each cake carried heartfelt concern and the hope of bringing joy to those in need, helping make the traditional New Year more peaceful.
Nguyễn Quốc Ngũ, General Director of NQT Quảng Ninh Trading and Construction Joint Stock Company and a representative of the organizing committee, said the program aims to connect organizations and individuals in caring for the poor and vulnerable during Tết. He noted that preparing ingredients together, wrapping the cakes, lighting the fire and tending the boiling pots for hours also creates an opportunity to spread a spirit of sharing and social responsibility.
At the baking area run by the Điện Biên Sports Dance Passion Club, the atmosphere was especially lively as members gathered around stacks of dong leaves and baskets of glutinous rice to take part in the program. The club mobilized and raised nearly VND 8 million to support the activity and sent more than 10 members to directly participate in the cake wrapping process.
Hồ Thị Quỳnh, Deputy Head of the Điện Biên Sports Dance Passion Club, said that as soon as members learned about the program, they unanimously agreed to join, hoping to contribute in a small way to bringing a warm spring to people in difficult circumstances. She described the initiative as meaningful, reflecting the Vietnamese tradition of mutual support and providing an opportunity for members to work together for the community while strengthening bonds through practical actions.
Once the chưng cakes were tightly tied, participants continued to gather around the stoves, taking turns tending the pots for many hours. Some added water, others adjusted the fire so the cakes would cook evenly. Regardless of age or profession, everyone shared the same wish - to help bring a warm and fulfilling Tết to those facing hardship.
Sharing about the participation of the provincial Women Entrepreneurs Club, Trịnh Thị Mến, Head of the club, said members were enthusiastic and highly responsible, each taking on multiple tasks, from selecting ingredients and assigning duties to checking the quality of the cakes before distribution. Every grain of glutinous rice, green bean, fresh pork belly and green dong leaf was carefully chosen so that each finished chưng cakes would be both well shaped and true to the traditional Tết flavor. Taking part directly from preparation to gift delivery, she added, clearly demonstrates the social responsibility of women entrepreneurs, especially toward vulnerable groups.
At the provincial Integrated Social Protection Center, more than 70 freshly cooked chưng cakes were handed directly to staff and residents being cared for at the facility, in a warm atmosphere as spring approaches.
According to Trần Thị Tươi, Director of the provincial Integrated Social Protection Center, many people living at the facility no longer have family members. Community support during Tết, she said, is deeply meaningful and provides great emotional encouragement. The chưng cakes will add warmth and joy to the spring season.
At the SOS Children’s Village Điện Biên Phủ, gift giving activities took place in a friendly and heartfelt setting. Children eagerly received the green chưng cakes, their smiles showing clearly as the Lunar New Year arrived early. At the dialysis hamlet and the provincial General Hospital, simple gifts were delivered directly to long term patients, offering comfort and a sense of shared compassion during difficult days of treatment.
The “green chưng cakes and a season of kindness” program is measured not only by the more than 1,000 cakes delivered, but also by the collective efforts of organizations and individuals working for the community. The initiative helps preserve traditional values during the Lunar New Year while spreading compassion and social responsibility, turning green chưng cakes into a symbol of a warm and caring spring in Điện Biên.
