Words of encouragement and presented gifts have contributed to spreading humanistic values and cultivating the traditional morality of “When drinking water, remember its source” and “Repaying gratitude” of the nation.
In Co Có village, Búng Lao commune, Lò Thị Bánh is the person who directly worships her brother, martyr Lò Văn Thâng. To her, preserving the incense and remembering the martyr is a sacred responsibility that is as inseparable as a part of the family’s flesh and blood. Every time her children and grandchildren gather, she tells the next generation about the brother who sacrificed his life, about the arduous years of war, and his dedication to the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.
Lò Thị Bánh said that the concern of the Party, the State, and the local government for the families of those who worship martyrs is always maintained regularly. On holidays, Tết, and anniversaries, the family frequently receives timely visits and encouragement, showing deep gratitude to those who sacrificed and recognition for the families who are silently continuing the sacred responsibility to the martyrs. Recently, the family of Lò Thị Bánh was one of 50 policy families and households in difficult circumstances in the commune to be presented with gifts by the working group of the National Assembly Standing Committee and the National Election Council on the occasion of their visit to work locally on the election of National Assembly deputies and People’s Council deputies at all levels for the 2026 - 2031 term.
More than half a century has passed with many changes in life, but every time April 30, 1975, the golden milestone of the complete liberation of the South and national unification, is mentioned, the memories of the years of fighting for the independence and freedom of the nation remain intact in the heart of veteran Nguyễn Xuân Quý in Residential Group 9, Điện Biên Phủ ward. On every holiday, Tết, or during major national events, he is moved when remembering the comrades who went through the fierce war with him.
As a former gunner of Division 316 who participated in fighting on the Southern battlefield, for veteran Nguyễn Xuân Quý, the joy of the day of total victory is always intertwined with the nostalgia for comrades who stayed behind on the battlefield. “Being able to return and live in peace is a great stroke of luck. I always remind myself to live in a way that is worthy of those who fell,” Nguyễn Xuân Quý shared emotionally.
Carrying war wounds that have affected his health over the years, veteran Nguyễn Xuân Quý always receives the care and concern of all levels, sectors, and local authorities. Timely visits, encouragement, and the full implementation of preferential policies have become a source of spiritual motivation that helps him overcome difficulties in life and feel at peace in his old age.
Expressing his emotion, veteran Nguyễn Xuân Quý said: “We are happy to always receive the concern of the Party, the State, and all levels and branches. This reflects the precious tradition of our nation, a nation that is united and loves peace. We hope that today’s generation knows how to cherish and live responsibly for themselves, their families, and the Fatherland, continuing the tradition, preserving the revolutionary achievements, and building the homeland and country to be increasingly developed and prosperous.”
The whole province currently has over 16,000 files of people with meritorious services to the revolution and their relatives; among them, nearly 1,200 people are receiving monthly allowances. With high responsibility and sacred morality, for many years, party committees and authorities at all levels have implemented many practical activities to thoughtfully care for the material and spiritual lives of war invalids, sick soldiers, relatives of martyrs, and families of people with meritorious services to the revolution. Many meaningful deeds are effectively maintained, such as presenting savings books, visiting and giving gifts during holidays and Tết, building gratitude houses, and awarding thousands of scholarships to the children of policy families.
Through the mobilization and connection of the Government, many organizations, individuals, and the business community inside and outside the province have also actively contributed and supported meritorious people and policy families through activities such as visiting, giving gifts, providing cash support, and offering free medical examinations and treatment with a total budget of tens of billions of VND.
Major General Lưu Trọng Lư, who serves as the Vice Chairman of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and Chairman of the provincial Veterans Association, affirmed: “Throughout the historical periods of the revolution and the cause of building and developing the country, the Party, the State, and the party committees and authorities at all levels have always placed the work of ‘Repaying gratitude’ in an important position, performing it with high responsibility and deep gratitude, considering this a regular and long-term political task. Therefore, many correct and targeted guidelines have been issued and implemented synchronously, contributing to improving the material and spiritual lives of war invalids, sick soldiers, relatives of martyrs, and people with meritorious services to the revolution, thereby affirming the responsibility and affection of the Party, the State, and the whole society toward the generations that fell to contribute to winning national independence and national unification.”
The war has receded, but the great sacrifices of previous generations are still deeply engraved in the hearts of every Vietnamese person. With the deep concern of the Party and the State through guidelines and policies along with the maintenance and widespread expansion of the “Repaying gratitude” movement, to date, policy families in the province all have a standard of living equal to or higher than the average standard of living of the residents in their area of residence. Many families and individuals have even risen to become advanced typical examples in patriotic emulation movements and are bright examples for current and future generations to study and follow.
