Flexible measures to ensure construction progress of multi-level schools

ĐBP - Amidst the continuous fluctuations in raw material and fuel prices, enterprises constructing inter-level boarding schools in border communes of Điện Biên province are facing immense pressure.

Nevertheless, through proactivity, flexibility, and creativity in organizing construction, these businesses have adapted promptly, maintaining their momentum to ensure both the progress and quality of the works, determined to complete them as scheduled.

Trịnh Văn Tý, from the Minh Khôi Investment and Development Co., Ltd. and manager of the Nà Bủng Inter-level Primary and Secondary Boarding School project, noted that transportation costs account for a significant portion of the total construction expenditure. As fuel prices rise, each trip incurs extra costs, directly impacting the final price of the project. Given the mountainous terrain, long transport distances, and difficult roads, these already high transport costs have increased even further.

The fluctuation of construction material prices at different times has made planning difficult for contractors. Sudden price spikes and unstable supplies have forced businesses to constantly adjust their construction plans and balance their finances. Meanwhile, many projects have strict deadlines to be ready for the new 2026 - 2027 school year. One effective solution applied is the adjustment of construction plans into stages, prioritizing key items while flexibly arranging auxiliary tasks based on market trends to avoid waste. Furthermore, enterprises actively seek contracts with suitable material mines within the province to save on transport costs and shorten supply times, ensuring continuous construction without interruption.

The Nà Bủng Inter-level Primary and Secondary Boarding School project commenced in early November 2025 and has now reached over 40% completion. Nguyễn Hồng Sơn, in charge of construction supervision, stated that contractors have signed long-term contracts with suppliers to stabilize material sources. Currently, bricks are largely stockpiled, while scarce materials like sand and gravel are being collected and stored. Steel is ordered directly from factories to avoid disruption. Consequently, the project maintains a “three shifts, four teams” work schedule to ensure the set progress.

Parallel to securing material supplies, construction units are increasing manpower and organizing overtime shifts, while mobilizing modern machinery to improve productivity and shorten construction time. Digital solutions for progress management and quality control are also being deployed to optimize overall project efficiency. To date, the Thanh Nưa Inter-level Primary and Secondary Boarding School project has reached 65% of its plan, with the contractor striving to finish by May 30. Bùi Đức Thuân, Project Manager for the Construction and Trade Company No.6, shared that during this “sprint” phase, the company is mobilizing maximum manpower across all items. The site currently employs about 400 workers, though the regular demand exceeds 500.

To address the labor shortage, the enterprise is focusing on attracting local labor by offering wage increases for effective teams and collaborating with local authorities and village heads to encourage residents to join the workforce. Additionally, workers are provided with monthly salary advances to ensure they can commit to the job. Currently, 14 inter-level boarding school projects are being constructed simultaneously across the border communes of the province. With the proactivity of contractors and timely support from management agencies, these projects are operating at full capacity despite the challenges, taking advantage of the “golden time” of the dry season to accelerate progress and reach the finish line on time.
