Every road - Myriad flowers

ĐBP - Through diligent hands, a keen sense of environmental stewardship, and a shared aspiration to beautify the homeland, the flower-lined roads initiated and tended by the women of Điện Biên province have reshaped the rural landscape.

These vibrant routes have become a hallmark of the journey toward building “new rural areas” and “civilized urban zones” across various localities. To launch this movement effectively, the Provincial Women’s Union selected Thanh Nưa and Thanh An communes as pilot sites, linking the initiative with the “5 No’s, 3 Cleans” and “3 Safeties” (safety, peace of mind, and social security) campaigns. This strategic alignment ensures the movement is systematic, treating landscape improvement as a core component of building a local cultural life while shifting public awareness and behavior.

Flower-lined roads have helped beautify the shared living spaces of many localities.

Pờ Diệu Ninh, Vice Chair of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee and Chair of the provincial Women’s Union, emphasized that the “Every road - Myriad flowers” initiative contributes to creating modern, clean, and beautiful public spaces. By integrating it with broader social criteria, the movement has enhanced the quality of life for members and fostered a visible shift in environmental protection and community safety. These floral routes also serve as scenic highlights that support local tourism development. Since its inception, the model has received enthusiastic responses, opening up prospects for expansion across the province.

In Thanh Nưa commune, the movement quickly made an impression in Mỹ Hưng village. A 500-meter stretch of road features 52 bougainvillea pots meticulously arranged to bloom in shades of pink, red, and purple against a backdrop of green rice fields. Beneath them, soft beds of cosmos flowers stretch out, creating a space that attracts both residents and tourists. Lê Thị Ngà, Chair of the Thanh Nưa Women’s Union, explained that bougainvillea was chosen for its hardiness, disease resistance, and ease of long-term care in the local climate.

The success of the route is largely due to the decisive role of the women members. The Mỹ Hưng Women’s Chapter directly manages and tends to specific sections of the road. Despite the unfavorable water supply during certain seasons, members proactively transport water from residential areas to ensure the flowers remain vibrant. This movement has gained high consensus; many families now contribute labor and resources voluntarily. During the recent International Women’s Day on March 8, the road became a popular destination for photography, fostering a joyful community spirit. Looking ahead, Thanh Nưa aims to replicate this model across its five former communes, selecting seasonal flowers and mobilizing social resources to ensure the roads remain colorful year-round.

In Thanh An commune, the movement is intertwined with cultural festivals. In late January 2026, 70 members mobilized to prepare the soil and sow cosmos seeds within the Hoàng Công Chất Temple grounds. By the Lunar New Year, these flowers were in full bloom, enhancing the historical site’s beauty and festive appeal. Lò Thị Chứ, Chair of the Thanh An Women’s Union, noted that visitors frequently share images of these gardens on social media, inadvertently promoting the local image. Building on this, the Xôm village chapter has combined flower planting with the “Consensus and United Residential Area” model, where women lead environmental cleanup and roadside improvements.

This “Every road - Myriad flowers” spirit is spreading rapidly to other areas such as Mường Lạn, Mường Ảng, Tìa Dình, and Tuần Giáo. Each locality adapts the model to its unique conditions, yet all share the goal of a green-clean-beautiful landscape. These efforts affirm the core role of women in social development, acting as the primary force in organizing the “5 No’s, 3 Cleans” and “3 Safeties” criteria. From an economic perspective, these roads offer a new path for landscape-based tourism, turning every road into a potential destination and a source of pride for the people of Điện Biên.
