Helping each other in economic development and sustainable poverty reduction has been one of the practical emulation movements implemented extensively by Women’s Union levels for all officials and members recently. Each year, the Provincial Women’s Union focuses on promoting the role of women as the main subjects in household economic development while strengthening dissemination and mobilizing members to shift crop and livestock structures and build savings models linked to livelihoods. They also facilitate conditions for women to access technical training classes to apply in livestock and cultivation, gradually improving their income. Through these practical methods, many female members have boldly risen to escape poverty and stabilize their lives.
In Mường Nhé village, Mường Nhé commune, Mùa Thị Hoàn serves as a typical example of this spirit. Previously, her family belonged to the poor household category for many consecutive years, with their life mainly relying on upland fields and unstable income. Thanks to the attention and motivation from local Party committees, authorities, and the Commune Women’s Union, Mùa Thị Hoàn changed her thinking and approach by boldly borrowing capital to develop reproductive buffalo and cattle farming. She recalled feeling very worried at first, but with encouragement from Union members and technical guidance from commune officials, she dared to borrow VND 80 million from the Social Policy Bank to buy a pair of breeding buffaloes.
Through diligent learning and the correct application of techniques, her family’s buffalo herd grew and reproduced well within just a few years, bringing in a stable source of income. With accumulated capital, she continued to expand the farming scale, invested in barns, developed more pigs and goats, and utilized agricultural by-products as feed to reduce costs. Every year, after deducting expenses, her family earns an income of over VND 150 million, and from being a poor household, Mùa Thị Hoàn and her family have now stabilized their lives.
Beside the movement of women helping each other in economic development, many other emulation movements and campaigns have been synchronously implemented by Union levels over the last 5 years, attracting large numbers of participants. These include movements for women to study and labor creatively to build happy families, the goal of each rural member’s family having a clean vegetable garden and raising at least 10 poultry, and the “5 No’s, 3 Cleans” campaign. In practice, these movements have gradually deepened and become suitable for the conditions of each specific area.
Pờ Diệu Ninh, Chairwoman of the provincial Women’s Union, stated that to enhance efficiency, Union levels regularly link emulation movements with studying and following Hồ Chí Minh’s ideology, morality, and style while organizing for members to register and commit to specific actions.
At the same time, emphasis is placed on innovating content and organizational methods to be practical and closely follow political tasks and members’ needs. Furthermore, cultural, artistic, and sports activities are maintained, and the work of visiting and supporting members in difficult circumstances or policy families is implemented promptly. Over the past 5 years, Union levels have mobilized resources for social security programs with a total value of over VND 6.5 billion.
With support from the Party, State, organizations, and various economic development programs, combined with the spirit of learning and diligent labor, the lives of members in highland and border areas have gradually improved. Every year, about 5-7% of poor female members across the province rise out of poverty. To further enhance the quality and efficiency of patriotic emulation movements and build strong grassroots political systems, Union levels also focus on organizational work under the motto that wherever there are women, there are Union activities. This involves building the image of Union officials with a sense of responsibility and professional capacity who stay close to the movement’s reality.
Đoàn Thị Hà, Chairwoman of the Nà Tấu commune Women’s Union, shared that from the reality of a difficult area, the Union selects specific tasks suitable for each group of members to implement. The focus is on supporting women in developing livelihoods linked to environmental protection, guiding members to build hygienic barns, treating livestock waste, utilizing agricultural by-products, and maintaining models of clean houses and beautiful gardens while keeping regular branch meetings and promoting the core role of grassroots Union officials. With flexible and practical implementation, the patriotic emulation movement among Điện Biên women continues to be awakened and spread, contributing to building prosperous families and a developing homeland in the new era.
