Điện Biên wraps up the 2024 National Tourism Year

ĐBP – The People's Committee of Điện Biên Province and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism jointly organised the closing ceremony of the 2024 National Tourism Year - Điện Biên at May 7 Square, Điện Biên Phủ City, on Sunday.

The event was attended by Hồ Đức Phớc, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Coordinating Council for the Midlands and Northern Mountainous Regions; Hồ An Phong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; and leaders of central and local departments, ministries, and agencies.
From Điện Biên Province, attendees included Trần Quốc Cường, Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; Mùa A Sơn, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee; and Lê Thành Đô, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Committee of Điện Biên Province.
The closing ceremony of the 2024 National Tourism Year - Điện Biên was held to summarise the events and activities conducted in response to the National Tourism Year, commend outstanding and notable activities, draw lessons from the organisation process, and propose solutions to promote the development of tourism in Điện Biên Province in the future.

Speaking at the ceremony, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Trần Quốc Cường stated that successfully organising the National Tourism Year is a meaningful activity to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Điện Biên Phủ Victory. It serves as an opportunity to promote the image and unique traditional cultural values of the ethnic groups in Điện Biên - Northwest region to domestic and international friends.

Activities of the National Tourism Year, associated with the 70th anniversary of the Điện Biên Phủ Victory, have generated strong attraction.

For the first time, Điện Biên welcomed nearly 2 million tourists, including 11,500 international visitors.

The total revenue from tourism activities reached VNĐ3.3 trillion, significantly contributing to the province's socio-economic and cultural development, ensuring national defence and security, and expanding foreign relations. Điện Biên Province achieved a GRDP growth rate of over 10 per cent in 2024.

 “Building on the achievements, the Party Committee, authorities, armed forces, and people of all ethnic groups in Điện Biên Province are determined to continue implementing comprehensive measures and solutions to promote socio-economic development, attract investment,” Cường said.

“This quickly makes tourism a spearhead economic sector, as outlined in Resolution No. 08 of the Politburo on developing tourism into a key economic sector; Resolution No. 11 of the Politburo on the orientation for socio-economic development and ensuring national defense and security in the Midlands and Northern Mountainous Regions by 2030 with a vision to 2045; and the resolution of the Provincial Party Committee on the development of Điện Biên tourism,” he added.

Recognising and congratulating the success of the 2024 National Tourism Year - Điện Biên, Deputy Prime Minister Hồ Đức Phớc noted that the activities of the 2024 tourism year and the 70th anniversary of the Điện Biên Phủ Victory have generated widespread resonance.

They sent a message highlighting the friendliness and hospitality of the Điện Biên people, the province’s majestic natural landscapes, the diverse and unique cultural identity of its ethnic minorities, and the historic significance of the Điện Biên Phủ battlefield.

Following the closing ceremony, Deputy PM Phớc called on Điện Biên Province to actively implement comprehensive solutions to improve infrastructure, preserve, nurture, and promote the province’s unique cultural values.

He also stressed the importance of focusing on developing ecological tourism, cultural-historical tourism, and community-based tourism, as well as enhancing human resource development, promoting market expansion, and respecting and protecting the natural environment to ensure the sustainable development of Điện Biên’s tourism.

At the closing ceremony, Điện Biên Province symbolically handed over the flag to Thừa Thiên Huế Province, the host of the 2025 National Tourism Year, themed “Huế - Ancient Capital, New Opportunity.”

The flag was presented by Lê Thành Đô, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, to Hồ An Phong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, before being officially passed to the leaders of Thừa Thiên Huế.

A highlight of the closing ceremony was the art program titled “Radiant Việt Nam”, featuring three segments: “Vibrant Điện Biên,” “Impressive Việt Nam,” and “Radiant Việt Nam.”

The high-quality performance showcased the beauty of the land and people of Việt Nam and Điện Biên, presenting a symphony of culture and nature.

The program left a deep impression on delegates, audiences, and visitors, spreading a message about the history, culture, and tourism of Việt Nam and Điện Biên. It celebrated the heroic, sacred, and culturally rich land of Điện Biên Phủ, marked by its friendly and hospitable people.

The ceremony concluded with delegates, residents, and visitors joining hands in a traditional xòe dance of solidarity, celebrating the success of the 2024 National Tourism Year - Điện Biên.
