Điện Biên Welcomes Over 1 Million Tourists Since Early 2024

ĐBP – The northern mountainous province of Điện Biên has seen a significant influx of tourists, welcoming over 1 million visitors since the beginning of this year. This figure includes approximately 4,800 international arrivals, as reported by the provincial Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism.

The tourism sector has generated nearly VNĐ1.9 trillion (US$74.6 million) in total revenue. The peak period from April 30 to May 7 was particularly busy, with the province welcoming over 371,000 tourists and generating revenue exceeding VNĐ390 billion (US$15.3 million).

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Điện Biên Phủ Victory, thousands of tourists flocked to historical sites such as Hill A1, Điện Biên Phủ Victory Museum, the command tunnel used by French General De Castries, and the Headquarters of the Điện Biên Phủ Campaign each day.

On May 6, the Điện Biên Phủ Victory Museum experienced such a sudden increase in the number of visitors that it had to temporarily stop selling tickets for one hour after opening at 8 am. The museum successfully managed the influx of visitors and reopened at 9 am.

To accommodate the surge in tourists, the Management Board of Điện Biên Province's Historical Sites and the Điện Biên Phủ Victory Museum mobilized all civil servants, workers, and volunteers to provide tour services and meet the needs of the visitors.

Thousands of residents and tourists flocked to the streets of Điện Biên Phủ City on May 7 to watch the parade marking the 70th anniversary of the Điện Biên Phủ Victory.

In 2024, as the host of the National Tourism Year and the 70th anniversary of the Điện Biên Phủ Victory, Điện Biên Province aims to welcome 1.3 million tourists with an estimated total revenue of around VNĐ2.2 trillion ($86.4 million).

With over 1 million tourists already welcomed, Điện Biên province is well-positioned to surpass its target of 1.3 million tourists. With many months remaining in 2024 and numerous events planned for the 2024 National Tourism Year, the province has a significant opportunity to achieve and even exceed this goal.
