Điện Biên Kicks Off Bản Phủ Citadel Festival 2024

ĐBP - The northern province of Điện Biên officially commenced the Bản Phủ Citadel Festival 2024 at the National Historical and Cultural Monument of Bản Phủ Citadel in Noong Hẹt Commune, Điện Biên District, on Tuesday morning (April 2).

The festival, which commemorates the death anniversary of the peasant hero Hoàng Công Chất (1706-1769) and showcases the cultural, sports, and tourism activities of the ethnic groups in Điện Biên District, is officially scheduled from April 2 to 3, with some preliminary activities taking place on April 1.

The opening ceremony of the Bản Phú Citedal Festival 2024 attracts the participation of delegates and a large number of people.

Important attendees included Trần Quốc Cường, a member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, along with current and former members of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee, and leaders of the Provincial People's Committee.

Delegates from Phôn Thoong District in Luang Prabang Province and Mường Mày District in Phongsaly Province of the Lao People's Democratic Republic, as well as delegates from various cities and provinces of Việt Nam, also participated in the event.

The opening ceremony begins with a drum performance.

The Bản Phủ Citadel Festival is divided into two main components: the ritual and the festival. The ritual part consists of solemn activities that include a procession and offering incense, as well as a special ceremony to honor Hoàng Công Chất. Chất is celebrated for leading local inhabitants in a movement to protect the Mường Thanh villages in Điện Biên from foreign invaders in the 18th century.

The festival portion is a vibrant celebration that showcases a variety of cultural and artistic activities, sports competitions, and traditional folk games. This mix of events serves not only to entertain but also to preserve and promote the rich cultural heritage of the ethnic groups in Điện Biên District.

The Bản Phủ Citadel holds great significance in Vietnamese history, particularly as a symbol of patriotism and national pride. This annual event, occurring on the 24th and 25th of the second lunar month, serves as a commemoration of Hoàng Công Chất and a reminder of the values of patriotism, solidarity, and national pride for the entire community.

The Bản Phủ Citadel and the Hoàng Công Chất Temple were officially recognized as national historic sites by the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism in 1981 and 1994, respectively.
