Điện Biên People’s Council collects feedback on legal compliance

ĐBP – The inspection team of the People’s Council of Điện Biên Province on Wednesday held a meeting to provide feedback on the draft report concerning the results of monitoring legal compliance in criminal trials and the enforcement of criminal and civil judgments in the province during the 2021–2024 period.

The meeting was convened after the inspection team conducted oversight at several entities, including the Provincial Police, the Provincial People’s Court, the Provincial Civil Judgment Enforcement Department, and the districts of Mường Ảng, Điện Biên, Điện Biên Đông, as well as Điện Biên Phủ City.

Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People’s Council, Giàng Thị Hoa, presides over the meeting.

The inspection team noted that the judicial bodies have made significant efforts to effectively fulfill their duties and meet the targets set by the central government, contributing to ensuring political security and social order in the province.

The activities of the prosecuting and judgment enforcement bodies have been enhanced through increased supervision by the People’s Procuracy at both levels. Emphasis was placed on identifying violations, issuing protests, and making recommendations to rectify errors and shortcomings in criminal trials.

The judicial and judgment enforcement bodies have effectively coordinated with relevant units to accelerate progress and improve the quality of criminal trials and the enforcement of both criminal and civil judgments. This has contributed to enhancing State management, reinforcing the rule of law, and combating and preventing crime in the province.

A representative of the Provincial Civil Judgment Enforcement Department provides feedback at the meeting.

During the 2021 – 2024 period, the units practiced prosecutorial authority and supervised the first-instance trials of 3,681 cases involving 4,363 defendants. The courts processed and resolved 3,678 cases involving 4,356 defendants, with three cases involving seven defendants still pending. The units also practiced prosecutorial authority and supervised appellate trials for 63 cases involving 70 defendants, which the courts fully processed and resolved.

The inspection team also acknowledged challenges and limitations encountered in carrying out related duties.

Based on these findings, the inspection team proposed several recommendations to the Government, relevant ministries, the provincial People’s Council and People’s Committee, the Provincial Committee of the Fatherland Front, and socio-political organisations at the provincial and district levels to promptly address the current inadequacies.

These measures aim to enhance the effectiveness of criminal trials and the enforcement of criminal and civil judgments in the province.

During the meeting, most of the inspection team’s members expressed their agreement with the summarised results in the draft report. Some members suggested revisions to the document’s format and recommended adding and clarifying certain proposals and suggestions.

Vice Chairwoman of the Provincial People’s Council, Giàng Thị Hoa, agreed with the feedback provided and instructed the specialised department to finalise the report as soon as possible.
