The previously narrow dirt road from the Sính Phình junction to Dê Giàng village used to take several hours to traverse, especially during the rainy season. This road, about 2.5km long, was a significant barrier to the movement of goods and people. However, with the motto “The State and the people working together,” the old road has now been replaced by a 3-meter wide concrete road. The project, which cost VND 5.9 billion, was funded through the National Target Program for New-style Rural Development and contributions from local people and organizations.

Thào A Tráng, from Dê Giàng village, shared his joy: “The old road was difficult to travel on, especially during the rainy season when it became slippery and muddy. People in the village grow a lot of corn and rice, but due to poor roads, traders couldn’t come directly to buy, so we had to carry our goods to the central commune to sell, which was exhausting. Now, with the new road, trucks can come to collect our produce directly from the fields. Our lives are more stable, and we are very happy.”
In Mường Đun commune, by the end of 2020, the only road that remained unpaved was the one leading from the center of the commune to Nà Sa and Bản Túc villages. To complete the rural transport system, Tủa Chùa district invested in upgrading the Mường Đun - Nà Sa - Bản Túc road in the 2020-2022 period. The 6.3km long road, costing nearly VND 15.5 billion, has not only improved access to remote villages but also contributed to fulfilling New-style Rural Development criteria.

Tẩn A Đạt, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Mường Đun commune, said that the commune has 8 villages, with a population of over 4,000. Now, all 8 villages have paved roads, making trade and commerce easier, even during the rainy season. The upgrading of the roads linking the central commune with distant villages like Túc, Kép, and Tâu has significantly shortened distances and improved the living standards of local people.
As part of the strategy to improve the rural transport system, Tủa Chùa district invests VND 30-40 billion annually from state budgets, national target programs, and contributions from businesses and the people. These investments focus on enhancing roads connecting the commune center with villages, facilitating greater mobility and improving people’s livelihoods.

According to the Tủa Chùa district’s Bureau of Economics and Infrastructure, the district currently has 138km of inter-communal roads and 63.9km of inter-village roads paved or asphalted. Over 64km of inter-communal roads and 13.2km of village roads have been upgraded with gravel.

However, despite improvements, Tủa Chùa still has nearly 80 km of inter-communal roads and over 221km of village roads that remain unpaved. The limitations in the transport system continue to pose significant challenges to the region’s development. With new strategies and solutions in place, the hope is that these remaining roads will be upgraded soon, helping to connect the most remote areas and further drive the development of Tủa Chùa.
