Specialized agencies have provided technical guidance and regularly urged farmers to perform weeding, fertilizing, moisture retention, and pest control right from the initial planting days.
Identifying coffee and macadamia as two pivotal crops in economic development, Mường Mùn commune proactively drafted plans and assigned specific tasks to specialized agencies, villages, and grassroots working teams to implement projects. Under the provincial People’s Committee plan, Mường Mùn commune was assigned to plant 400 hectares of coffee and 400 hectares of macadamia. Based on assigned targets, the commune formulated larger-scale planting projects to create long-term development room.
For coffee, the commune deployed planting across 1,142.1 hectares, achieving approximately 91% of the target to date. Recognizing the economic efficiency of coffee trees, many households proactively invested in expanding production outside the project scope, planting over 160 new hectares in 2026. For macadamia, although the province assigned 400 hectares, the commune developed a project exceeding 420 hectares.
Recently, the commune People’s Committee assigned specialized divisions to inspect model coffee and macadamia orchards in Ta Pao, Huổi Lốt, Hỏm Hốc, and Phiêng Pẻn villages. Inspections revealed that most newly planted acreage is developing stably.
Farming households have proactively cleared vegetation, retained soil moisture, replanted dead saplings, and followed technical instructions from specialized agencies. While several highland plots encountered difficulties due to prolonged rainfall, farmers generally remained proactive in crop care, aiming for healthy tree development and stable income streams in coming years.
Nguyễn Mạnh Hùng, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Mường Mùn commune, stated that the locality currently maintains and protects over 500 hectares of coffee and more than 870 hectares of macadamia. For newly planted acreage, the commune requires villages to step up communication and mobilize residents to strictly adhere to technical care procedures, manage planted areas effectively, and utilize model orchards as cores for local replication. Specialized forces have been directed to remain close to the grassroots level, provide technical guidance, closely monitor crop growth, and promptly assist farmers in resolving bottlenecks to enhance seedling survival rates and ensure stable growth.
Implementing agricultural restructuring policies and oriented coffee and macadamia development, Sáng Nhè commune concentrated all resources on tending newly planted crops. In late July, an inspection mission from the commune People’s Committee reviewed the progress of the 2026 intercropped coffee and macadamia project in Nậm Din and Mý Làng villages.
Inspections showed that many coffee and macadamia plots have taken root and grown well because farmers fully carried out care measures such as clearing weeds, applying fertilizer, retaining moisture, and filling empty spots. Trần Ngọc Duyên, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Sáng Nhè commune, stated that for 2026 new plantings, the entire commune rolled out over 70 hectares with approximately 245,000 coffee trees intercropped with 9,600 macadamia trees. In addition to meeting planting schedules, the commune provided technical guidance so households could focus on caring for and protecting trees from the outset, ensuring high survival rates and stable growth.
Authorities in Quảng Lâm commune also regularly inspect progress in coffee and macadamia development plans among participating households, focusing on basal fertilization, planting distance, survival rates, and post-planting care.
Seedlings have grown well after planting, receiving meticulous care and protection. Farmers proactively weed, supplement fertilizers, shield saplings during heavy rains, and check soil moisture to curb mortality rates. While households have planted and cared for crops according to schedule, the commune will continue strictly enforcing technical protocols and stepping up crop protection in the coming period.
Coffee and macadamia trees rely heavily on care during their initial years. Without proper attention to weeding, fertilization, moisture retention, and pest prevention, saplings are prone to dying. Under correct technical care, trees grow vigorously, shortening the basic construction period and yielding stable harvests earlier.
Commune-level inspections, technical guidance, and the assignment of cadres in charge of specific areas have heightened farmers’ responsibility in crop management. Concurrently, systematically invested model orchards serve as visual examples for local communities to learn from and replicate.
With decisive direction from authorities at all levels, dedicated accompaniment from specialized agencies, and public proactivity, newly planted coffee and macadamia areas across communes in Điện Biên province are being closely managed and tended. This provides an important foundation to raise seedling survival rates, establish concentrated commodity production zones, effectively implement agricultural restructuring, and progressively boost incomes and living standards for local people across the province.
