Leading the way in education in Điện Biên

ĐBP -  In the heart of historic Điện Biên Phủ lies a school often described as the province’s “nursery of intellect” - Lê Quý Đôn Gifted High School. For nearly three decades, this institution has nurtured dreams, fueled aspirations, and cultivated knowledge for generations of students, many of whom have gone on to achieve remarkable success, bringing pride to this heroic land.

29 years of establishing excellence

Founded in 1996, Lê Quý Đôn Gifted High School began amid limited resources and a fledgling faculty. Classrooms were modest, reference materials scarce, and teachers had to balance teaching with self-directed learning to train high-achieving students. Yet, through a spirit of perseverance guided by the motto “teach well, learn well”, the school gradually secured its reputation within the province’s educational system.

Vice Principal Lê Thị Biên recalls: “In the early years, we faced countless challenges. Both teachers and students had to exert multiple times the effort. But it was precisely in those difficult times that we built a culture of solidarity, boldness, and student-centered learning, laying the foundation for the school’s identity.”

From adversity, a valuable tradition emerged. Teachers and students united, turning challenges into motivation and using a thirst for knowledge as their compass. Today, after nearly three decades of growth, Lê Quý Đôn Gifted High School has become a source of pride for Điện Biên’s education sector and a trusted hub for nurturing talent. The school’s achievements over the years speak volumes.

In just the past five years, teachers and students have won nearly 3,000 provincial awards for academic excellence. At the national level, the school has secured 83 prizes, including one first prize, nine second prizes, 27 third prizes, and 46 consolation prizes. Notably, in the 2024- 2025 academic year, a student won the top prize in biology, and all ten subjects entered in competitions earned awards, a remarkable milestone affirming the school’s position as a leading educational institution in historic Điện Biên.

“Behind these achievements lies the quiet dedication of generations of teachers and students. We view gifted education as not only a task but also a responsibility and a source of pride. The support from the provincial Party Committee, People’s Council, and People’s Committee laid the groundwork for our development, while the teachers and students themselves are the decisive factor in today’s success”,  Biên said enthusiastically.

Glory paired with challenges

Despite numerous achievements, Lê Quý Đôn Gifted High School has faced ongoing challenges. Facilities remain limited, the campus is compact, and there is insufficient space for physical activities and soft skills training. Some classrooms and equipment are outdated, falling short of modern teaching and learning needs.

Yet, it is precisely in these hardships that the school’s resilience and determination have been forged. Turning challenges into motivation, the school’s leadership has persistently sought solutions to immediate obstacles while inspiring teachers and students to strive harder.

Annually, Lê Quý Đôn Gifted High School has many students winning top awards in competitions and exams.

According to Biên, timely policy support has been crucial. The provincial People’s Council’s Resolution 08/2021/NQ-HDND on support policies for gifted students and awards for teachers and students has been a significant motivator. As a result, students can focus on learning, while teachers are encouraged to dedicate themselves fully to nurturing high-achievers.

Equally important is the school’s focus on recruiting and developing its faculty. Skilled, experienced teachers , many former national and international prize-winning students, are carefully selected and given opportunities to maximize their abilities. Teachers also participate annually in workshops, training sessions, and exchanges with other gifted schools nationwide, ensuring teaching methods are continuously refreshed and aligned with modern demands.

Alongside its teaching staff, the school implements a systematic approach to identifying, selecting, and nurturing talented students. From grade 10, students engage in intensive programs and regional competitions to gain experience, building confidence for larger-scale contests.

Trần Anh Quân, a gifted math student who recently won the gold medal at the 19th Hùng Vương Summer Camp in 2025, shared: “Lessons with my teachers not only expanded my knowledge but also strengthened my discipline and perseverance. Each competition teaches me to stay calm and confident. I always feel my teachers’ close guidance, which motivates me to give my best.”

Stepping into a new era

While past achievements are a source of pride, they also raise expectations for Lê Quý Đôn Gifted High School in the new era. With increasing digital transformation and international integration, excellence in education goes beyond winning awards, it must also develop citizens with knowledge, skills, resilience, and creativity.

To achieve this, the school is pursuing comprehensive innovation: updating curricula, integrating technology, and expanding experiential and international exchange programs for students. Close collaboration with parents, social organizations, and businesses is also viewed as crucial for providing additional resources and creating a holistic learning environment.

“We recognize that much remains to be done. The school will continue to innovate teaching methods, further invest in faculty development, and enhance technology in management and learning. Above all, we place people at the center, teachers continually improve their expertise, while students are encouraged to reach their full potential and nurture their aspirations to excel”, Biên said.

Despite challenges, with nearly 30 years of tradition, dedicated teachers, and ambitious students, Lê Quý Đôn Gifted High School continues to assert its position as the leading educational institution of the province. Its recent recognition at the 6th provincial Emulation Congress is a clear testament to relentless efforts and reinforces confidence in a new generation of young intellectuals with bold ambitions, ready to step forward in an era of growth.
