Digital tools reshape teaching in Điện Biên’s schools

ĐBP - Recognizing digital transformation and information technology (IT) adoption as key to improving education quality, the provincial education sector has proactively rolled out a range of solutions in recent years.

At Thanh Nưa High School (Thanh Nưa commune), clear action plans have been developed to advance IT application and digital transformation. The school has promoted research and adoption of modern, digitally-based teaching models; built a digital learning resource repository that includes e-lessons, multimedia materials, e-textbooks and simulation software. It has also introduced electronic administrative records such as e-gradebooks, e-student profiles and digital signatures. Teachers and staff regularly join training courses to strengthen their IT skills.

The school now operates 86 computers for teaching and management, as well as projectors and teaching equipment that meet daily needs. All teachers apply IT in teaching, education activities, assessment and testing.

These efforts have contributed to better learning outcomes. In the last academic year, over 70% of students achieved “good” and “fair” results; the school entered two projects in the provincial science research contest for students, with one winning third prize.

Nguyễn Thành Long, Principal of Thanh Nưa High School, said: “Digital transformation not only supports teachers in innovating teaching methods but also helps students become more proactive in their learning. We will continue mobilizing resources to invest in infrastructure, expand digital learning materials and enhance teachers’ digital competencies to build a modern and effective learning environment aligned with development trends.”

Digital transformation is being implemented across the education sector, from administrators to schools. As of June 2025, all educational institutions in Điện Biên province are equipped with wifi networks; every school uses management software, mostly cloud-based systems. Human resource development for digital transformation is also a priority: 12,563 teachers have been trained in designing e-learning lessons; 9,375 staff and teachers have received training on using management software effectively; and notably, 13,299 staff and teachers have undergone training on AI applications.

Cù Huy Hoàn, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training, noted: “Digital transformation is one of our key tasks to improve administrative efficiency and renew teaching, assessment and management practices. We are coordinating with provincial agencies to implement the province’s digital transformation plan, while investing in IT infrastructure, online classrooms, computer labs and broadband networks for schools. Training for teachers and staff on digital transformation is also being strengthened.”

In the coming period, the provincial education sector will continue upgrading its broadband infrastructure and maintain high speed internet access for all schools. The sector aims to expand technology investment and push IT integrated teaching to achieve a target where 90% of lessons utilize technology. It will keep implementing the digital transformation plan for 2021-2025 with a vision to 2030, digitizing administrative documents and records.

The sector will also ensure effective use of core software systems, including the Education Sector Database, school age population management, financial and asset management platforms, to meet modernization and reform requirements.
