At Điện Biên Phủ High School, counseling and career guidance activities for students are deployed from the moment they enter 10th grade. Right at the beginning of the school year, the school conducts surveys on students’ abilities and learning aspirations, while basing on each student’s academic results to advise on choosing suitable subject combinations. The school proactively coordinates with colleges and vocational training institutions to organize counseling and guidance, helping students gain an overview of professions, requirements for capacity and skills, as well as job opportunities. Through this activity, students understand the requirements and development trends of the labor market better, thereby determining the correct learning motivation and proactively cultivating necessary knowledge and skills.
Phạm Quốc Cường, Principal of Điện Biên Phủ High School, stated that the school has established a Career Counseling Board based on the guidance documents of the education sector, innovations in admissions work, information on the labor market, and future career trends. The Board is tasked with organizing counseling activities and answering students’ questions and concerns. In addition, the school also encourages students to exchange directly with homeroom teachers or teachers in the Board for timely support, helping them shape their learning and career paths more clearly.
Not only Điện Biên Phủ High School, but many schools in the province have also focused on implementing career guidance activities for students. At the provincial Ethnic Boarding High School, career orientation work is identified as one of the key tasks.
Vũ Trung Hoàn, Principal of the school, shared: “Three years of high school are a crucial time for students to clearly define learning goals associated with career orientation. Through thematic sessions and career guidance activities, students are assessed and self-assess their own abilities, strengths, and career interests. This is an important basis for them to choose suitable professions, while training necessary qualities and skills to adapt to career requirements in the future. The school integrates career guidance content into different subjects to help students have multi-dimensional information, thereby choosing paths suitable for their own abilities, family conditions, and the actual needs of society.”
In addition to the efforts of schools, the provincial Employment Service Center actively participates in career guidance, career orientation, and entrepreneurship work for students. In October 2025, the Center organized many thematic talks at high schools, Ethnic Boarding High Schools, and Secondary & High Schools in the province. The thematic sessions attracted the participation of a large number of students.
According to Nguyễn Duy Phương, Deputy Director in charge of the provincial Employment Service Center, the total number of pupils and students counseled on career orientation and entrepreneurship during the recent counseling drive was about 2,800. Among them, more than 700 students were interested in job positions at domestic companies and enterprises, and nearly 100 students were interested in support programs and policies of the State and enterprises regarding working abroad for a limited time.
At the thematic talks, students actively participated in exchanges in an open atmosphere, discussed lively, and shared frankly their concerns and worries revolving around issues such as: Choosing majors, choosing schools, and job opportunities after high school graduation. The provincial Employment Service Center posed 138 questions and received 147 feedback opinions from students. These are important pieces of information for organizing units to grasp the thoughts and aspirations of students, thereby having suitable and realistic counseling methods.
With two-way interaction and frank exchange between students and counselors, the provincial Employment Service Center provided much more practical information about the labor market, job opportunities, and support policies, helping them have more basis for career and job orientation after graduating from high school.
Choosing a profession is an important decision, having a long-term impact on the future of every student. Early counseling and career guidance have practical significance, helping students prepare well in terms of mindset, knowledge, and necessary skills, thereby choosing suitable paths after graduating from high school. Through the active involvement of schools, functional agencies, and the companionship of families, career guidance work for students is increasingly going into depth, contributing to improving the quality of human resources and meeting the development requirements of the locality in the new period.
