A standout feature of the 600-question set is that its content goes beyond traffic laws, road signs, and driving techniques, adding many real-life scenarios and skills for handling dangerous situations. As a result, the driving test no longer merely checks dry theoretical knowledge but genuinely assesses the ability to understand and apply knowledge to reality, requiring learners to thoroughly grasp the material instead of just “rote learning” or relying on “exam tips” as before.
Notably, the set contains a group of “elimination questions” on extremely dangerous behaviors such as running red lights, driving under the influence of alcohol, driving against traffic flow, or disobeying traffic police orders. Just one wrong answer in this group results in immediate failure, regardless of the total number of correct answers. This regulation both tightens discipline and emphasizes the requirement for candidates to study carefully, understand deeply, and not underestimate any content. In addition, the number of questions, test time, and passing scores are specifically regulated for each license category, ensuring candidates master comprehensive knowledge and skills while avoiding critical errors.
Lieutenant Colonel Nguyễn Anh Tuấn, Deputy Head of the Driver Testing and Licensing Division, of the Traffic Police Division under the provincial Police Department, said: “The new question set forces candidates to completely change traditional study methods. Rote learning or selective study no longer works; in fact, it can easily lead to failure if elimination questions are missed or real-life scenarios are handled incorrectly. Instead, candidates need to study comprehensively, especially focusing on scenario-based and dangerous situation questions. They must understand the essence of the law and know how to apply it when driving in traffic.”
Authorities advise learners to use the official mock test software issued by the Traffic Police Division, where scenario questions are realistically simulated to help candidates practice handling skills and making quick, accurate decisions. This practice method is completely different from traditional theoretical learning, requiring candidates to think actively and apply real-life knowledge rather than just memorizing answers.
Sharing his experience with the new question set, Mr. Vũ Đức Toán (Na Sang commune) said: “Compared to before, the exam has become more difficult, requiring learners to regularly update their knowledge and firmly grasp traffic laws. However, once you understand the essence, the set brings many benefits, helping learners connect learning with real-life driving, handle situations safely, and be more responsible. Especially the elimination questions such as running red lights or driving under the influence don’t just test knowledge but also help us realize penalties, accident risks, and legal consequences, making the lesson unforgettable and practical.”
Mr. Phùng Văn Kiệm, Director of the Road Motor Vehicle Driver Training and Testing Center (Điện Biên College), said: “In response to the new 600-question set, our center promptly adjusted teaching methods to match real-life practice, improving training effectiveness and pass rates. We added new content from the Road Traffic Safety Law to lessons and updated mock test software transferred from the Traffic Police Department. Thanks to this, learners are exposed to standardized, practice-oriented programs, helping improve training outcomes and meet exam requirements.”
According to the provincial Traffic Police Department, after more than three months of applying the new 600-question set, the quality of exam results has improved significantly. The pass rate now ranges from 60% to 67%, higher than before, demonstrating the effectiveness of training. This outcome not only raises the quality of licensed drivers but also contributes to reducing accidents and building a safer traffic culture.
