The attention and help of benefactors have helped resolve the shortage of daily-life water, contributing to improving the quality of education for teachers and students at highland schools.
Shortage of daily-life water has been a worry for many school years for teachers and students at Võ Nguyên Giáp Kindergarten (Mường Phăng commune). Although being a central school site with over 100 officials, teachers, and children, the school did not have a stable water source and had to ask for water from surrounding households to serve daily hygiene and cooking. In 2021, the school was supported to drill a well, but the pipe was small and water flow was weak, so it was still insufficient. In May 2025, Võ Nguyên Giáp Kindergarten received 3 new drilled wells sponsored by the Highland Poor Students Fund, ensuring enough water supply for all child nurturing and care activities.
Lý Kim Phượng, Principal of Võ Nguyên Giáp Kindergarten, shared: “Due to water shortage, there were times when teachers had to go ask for water from people to cook for the children. This greatly affected daily activities and teaching. When introduced and connected by local officials with the unit supporting the drilling of 3 water wells, the school’s teachers and students were very excited. Currently, all 3 new drilled wells have stable water sources, solving the school’s water shortage worry that lasted for many years. We are grateful for the concern of the leaders as well as the companionship spirit of the Highland Poor Students Fund and benefactors who helped the school improve living conditions and ensure a safe environment for children.”
Since May 2025, Kê Nênh Kindergarten Site belonging to Họa Mi Kindergarten (Điện Biên Phủ ward) has escaped the prolonged shortage of daily-life water when supported by the Highland Poor Students Fund to drill a new water well. Previously, the school site did not have a stable clean water source, forcing teachers and students to depend on the gravity water system from the village.
“Without a clean water line, we had to use gravity water shared with the villagers. The water source was intermittent, so the teachers were very hard-pressed. Even when there was no water, teachers had to transport water from home to cook for the children,” Nguyễn Thị Hằng, Vice Principal in charge of Họa Mi Kindergarten, recalled.
Faced with that situation, through the connection of officials of Điện Biên Phủ ward, the Highland Poor Students Fund supported the school to drill a new well at Kê Nênh Kindergarten Site to provide a stable, cleaner, and safer water source for teachers and students. The completed and put-into-use drilled well brought clear changes, helping teachers be proactive in daily activities and child care without the worry of water shortage.
Aiming to support educational facilities facing difficulties with daily-life water sources, in 2025, many community organizations and volunteer groups coordinated to deploy a series of drilled well works and water supply systems for schools in difficult areas. Among them, 2 Ethnic Boarding Primary & Secondary Schools in Mường Nhà commune, Hoàng Văn Nô Primary School, Pu Lau Kindergarten, and Phan Đình Giót High School... were supported with well drilling, pipe installation, as well as supplementing water tank systems...
As the person directly connecting with organizations and benefactors, Mai Trọng Thuyết, Head of the Party Building Commission of Điện Biên Phủ ward, said: Although conditions in each place are different, an easily noticeable common point is that most schools lack clean and stable water sources to serve students’ minimum needs for hygiene, cooking, and daily activities. At each school site, support delegations conduct assessments of geological conditions, terrain, and usage needs to choose the most suitable solution. Places with the ability to find sources will drill deep wells to find stable water flows; places with limited water will drill smaller pipes to save costs. As for school sites where wells cannot be drilled due to overly complex geology, the plan of conducting water by pipes and pumps from distant sources is prioritized as a replacement.
Thanks to the joining of hands of community organizations, many school sites have been invested in drilling new wells and installing tank systems to create reserves for the dry season. Some schools were supported to renovate pipes, strengthen water pumping, or equip additional machinery to serve water conduction from afar. Thanks to that, the water shortage situation lasting for many years has been significantly improved, helping boarding cooking, personal hygiene, and classroom and kitchen hygiene be better ensured.
The deployment of drilled wells and water supply systems at schools in difficult areas has brought practical value, helping to resolve the need for daily-life water that many places have faced for years. Not stopping at providing clean water sources, these works also demonstrate community cohesion and the spirit of responsibility for the generation of students in difficult areas.
In the coming time, maintaining and expanding clean water support programs for highland areas is very necessary; thereby helping all students access minimum living conditions and study in a healthy environment. Therefore, organizations and individuals should continue to accompany highland teachers and students to bring clean water sources to difficult school sites. Practical actions today are the solid foundation for the future of highland education, while affirming that timely concern can create long-term and positive changes for the community.
