Activities have contributed to eliminating prejudices, preventing gender-based violence, protecting women and girls, and building a safe and healthy living environment.
Responding to the Action Month for Gender Equality and Prevention and Response to Gender-Based Violence in 2025, the Women’s Union Branch of Na Vai village, Sam Mứn commune, organized dissemination on gender equality, attracting a large number of members. At the meeting, content about gender equality in the family and society; rights and obligations of women and girls; common gender-based violence behaviors and how to identify and prevent them were disseminated specifically and understandably by Branch officials. Members were guided on self-protection skills, behavioral skills, sharing, and supporting when detecting or being victims of violence and abuse. In an open atmosphere, women boldly shared practical experiences and raised difficulties and obstacles in family and community life.
According to Lường Thị Phương, Head of the Women’s Union Branch of Na Vai village, thanks to practical dissemination content suitable for local conditions, people’s awareness of gender equality has seen many positive changes. The division of labor in the family is increasingly fairer, and gender stereotypes are gradually being eliminated.
With the motto of directing towards the grassroots, many movements and campaigns have been effectively implemented by the provincial Women’s Union, such as “Building Điện Biên women of the new era,” “Building the ‘5 No’s, 3 Cleans’ family” associated with the program of building new rural areas and civilized urban areas, thereby contributing importantly to the prevention and support of women and children suffering from violence and abuse.
A prominent highlight is the implementation of Project 8 “Implementing gender equality and solving urgent problems for women and children” under the National Target Program for Socio-economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas. Through the project, union levels organized many practical activities such as capacity-building training, diverse communication forms, children’s forums, communication initiative contests, and direct dialogues between party committees, authorities, and women. To date, the whole province has established 540 community communication groups with nearly 4,800 members, 96 “Leaders of Change” clubs, and 50 trusted addresses, creating a widespread support network at the grassroots level.
The provincial Women’s Union actively participates in social supervision and criticism regarding policies related to gender equality; promoting the application of information technology in dissemination, administration, and management. Many digital skill training classes were organized, helping women improve their capacity to access technology and use social networks safely and effectively.
Sharing about the effectiveness of digital skill training activities, Lò Thị Thanh Bình, Chairwoman of the Women’s Union of Thanh Yên commune, said: “Equipping members and women with digital skills is an inevitable requirement in the current context. Through training, women not only improve their ability to access information and use social networks safely but also step-by-step apply technology to family economic development, prevent risks in cyberspace, and contribute to protecting themselves and girls.”
In the context of the digital era opening up many opportunities for learning, employment, and development, women and girls are facing many risks such as cyber scams, cyber violence, online harassment, and invasion of privacy.
Pờ Diệu Ninh, Vice Chairperson of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee, Vice Chairperson in charge of the provincial Women’s Union, said that in the coming time, the Union will continue to promote dissemination and education to raise awareness of gender equality and the role of women and girls in the digital environment. Diversifying communication forms, promoting digital transformation in union activities; supporting women, especially those in remote, isolated, and ethnic minority areas, to improve digital skills, step-by-step accessing e-commerce and the digital economy. At the same time, the Union continues to coordinate closely with all levels and sectors, mobilizing the participation of men, families, and the community in promoting gender equality; proactively advising, proposing, and supervising the implementation of guidelines and policies related to women and children. Thereby contributing to affirming the role and position of Điện Biên women in the family and society, aiming to build a sustainable, safe, and equal development community in the digital era.
