The event was attended by Julien Guerrier, Ambassador of the European Union to Việt Nam; Olivier Brochet, French Ambassador to Việt Nam; and Herve Conan, Director of the French Development Agency (AFD) in Việt Nam.
Representing Điện Biên Province was Lê Thành Đô, Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee.
The project on exploring the history of Điện Biên Phủ was initiated and funded by AFD. Over the course of more than a year, the project completed the installation of 40 key components. These include a stone model depicting the entire tour route, 19 information panels introducing historical sites, 20 directional signs, 225 guideposts throughout the journey, and a trilingual guidebook (Vietnamese, English, and French) detailing the itinerary.
Speaking at the event, French Ambassador to Việt Nam Olivier Brochet expressed hope that the information panels and directional signs would facilitate visits, particularly for international tourists, to the historic Điện Biên Phủ battlefield.
He emphasised that the project would enhance visitors’ understanding of the historical significance of the site while also showcasing Điện Biên Province’s stunning natural landscapes and tourist attractions.
Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Lê Thành Đô highlighted the importance of effectively utilising the facilities to promote tourism in Điện Biên Province. The Provincial People’s Committee assigned the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism to manage and operate the project.
He also called on local media outlets, including the Điện Biên Radio and Television Station and Điện Biên Phủ Newspaper, to intensify promotional efforts through various platforms to attract both domestic and international visitors.
