Điện Biên is a historical land. The Điện Biên Phủ Victory created its own stature and identity. However, Điện Biên today does not stop at past values. The province is proactively refreshing its tourism approach, in which experiential tourism is prioritized for development.
In recent years, tourism promotion and advertising work have been deployed synchronously. Images of Điện Biên appear increasingly at fairs and events both at home and abroad. Counseling and information support activities are maintained regularly, allowing tourists and tourism businesses to easily access the destination. Media space at major festivals is methodically invested, making the Điện Biên impression increasingly clear.
In communication and destination introduction, digital media is identified as an inevitable direction. Electronic information channels and social networks are exploited effectively. Images and stories about Điện Biên spread widely, especially to young tourist groups. Communication also targets the international market, aiming at subjects who value authentic experiences and emotions.
One of the unique products of Điện Biên tourism currently is experiential tourism associated with the community. Many ethnic villages such as Thái, Mông, and Hà Nhì have become interesting destinations. Here, the people are the subjects. Tourists eat together, stay together, live together, and participate in labor, festivals, and traditional cuisine together. Tourism therefore becomes close, culture is preserved, and livelihoods are improved.
Historical tourism continues to be a pillar, but the implementation method has changed. “Back to the source” tours, city tours, and historical reenactment activities are organized flexibly. Technology is applied to make history become more vivid and accessible. Guests come to Điện Biên not only to visit but to feel and to reflect on the value of peace.
The achieved results are clear evidence. In 2025, Điện Biên welcomed over 1.45 million visitors. Total revenue from tourism reached about VND 2,400 billion. The average length of stay reached 3 days. The system of more than 250 accommodation establishments is constantly being perfected, and travel businesses are step-by-step expanding the market.
To develop sustainable tourism, the province focuses on perfecting institutions. Resolutions on tourism development support policies will create new motivation. Rural tourism continues to be deployed in new rural construction, and national target programs are integrated effectively. Tourism is associated with poverty reduction and the conservation of ethnic minority culture.
State management of tourism is also strengthened. Tourism resources are investigated and evaluated, while business establishments are guided and inspected regularly. A safe, civilized, and friendly tourism environment is focused on being built, and service quality is step-by-step raised. Investment attraction and digital transformation are also paid attention to. Currently, new tourism models and products are being formed. The province’s smart tourism system is deployed, where technology contributes to enhancing the visitor experience and improving management efficiency.
Linkage and cooperation in tourism development continue to be expanded. Điện Biên strengthens connections with Tây Bắc provinces, major tourism centers in the country, and some localities in Northern Laos, Northern Thailand, and Yunnan (China). Cooperation agreements with large enterprises and the aviation industry create more room for development.
In 2026, Điện Biên strives to welcome over 1.6 million visitors, with total revenue from tourism reaching over VND 2,880 billion. The goal is not only to increase quantity but, more importantly, to improve quality, extend the length of stay, and increase experience value. Điện Biên is making efforts so that “Endless Experience” is no longer just the slogan of the past national tourism year but a clear orientation that is gradually becoming a reality.
