Mường Ảng is step-by-step forming a linkage chain running from production to
processing and agricultural product consumption. Currently, the commune concentrates resources and steps up investment attraction for deep processing, brand building, and expanding the coffee consumption market, thereby step-by-step elevating agricultural product values, increasing public income, and creating a driving force for local economic development.
Identifying coffee as a core crop, over the past years, Mường Ảng commune has focused on maintaining and developing the raw material zone along a commodity-oriented direction. To date, the entire commune logs more than 1,800 ha of coffee. In 2026, the locality completed digging holes for 300 ha of coffee intercropped with macadamia, and has currently deployed 40 ha of new planting. Alongside expanding the area, the commune drives the replanting of old areas, guides residents to harvest ripe cherries, and executes primary processing in line with correct technical workflows, step-by-step elevating the quality of raw materials serving deep processing.
These changes in production methods have brought clear efficiency to coffee growers. Coffee prices in recent years have maintained a stable level, and consumption linkages help residents feel secure in investing in care. Many households have the conditions to expand production, upgrade income, and improve their lives.
Lường Văn Thành from Na Luông village, Mường Ảng commune, shared: “In recent years, coffee has fetched high prices; last year, my family earned VND 200 million. This year, we are expanding by an additional 5,000 m², raising the family’s total coffee area to 2 ha. In the coming time, when the coffee processing factory is constructed in the locality, I expect coffee prices will stabilize, transport costs will reduce, and more jobs and guaranteed product consumption will be secured.”
Alongside developing the raw material zone, Mường Ảng commune has paid close attention to developing local cooperatives and enterprises investing in deep processing to create high value-added coffee products.
The Sisters Coffee Association in Na Luông village, Mường Ảng commune has built a closed model running from the raw material zone to processing and product consumption. Currently, the unit links up to purchase coffee from village households at prices higher than the market rate. On average each year, it sells over 10 tons of coffee powder to the market with natural, honey, and wet processing product lines. The products are present in multiple markets such as Hanoi and Hải Phòng.
Tòng Thị Nọi, a member of the Sisters Coffee Association in Mường Ảng commune, noted: “Currently, the association mainly purchases coffee from sister members within the Women’s Union branch of Na Luông village. The natural processing method with honey and wet processing lines demands a rigorous harvesting process and a high rate of ripe cherries, so we usually buy from members at prices VND 1,000 to 2,000/kg higher than the market price. For instance, last year, when the average coffee price was VND 25,000 to 30,000/kg, the association purchased at VND 27,000 to 32,000/kg.”
In Mường Ảng commune, several coffee processing enterprises and establishments have initially begun investing in modern machinery to upgrade product quality. Hải An Co., Ltd. has invested in a line system for roasting, grinding, sorting, and packaging, while continuing to develop instant coffee products to expand the market, boasting a capacity of over 20 tons of products per year. The Hà Chung coffee processing establishment has step-by-step upgraded its workshops, invested in industrial roasting machines, expanded its production scale, and diversified processed products, aiming to meet market demands both inside and outside the province.
The participation of processing enterprises has step-by-step perfected the local coffee value chain, contributing to elevating the value of coffee beans instead of purely consuming them as raw materials.
To form a sustainable value chain, the local government identifies attracting enterprises to invest in deep processing as a breakthrough step.
Trần Minh Giáp, Vice Chairman of the Mường Ảng commune People’s Committee, stated: “The locality determines that coffee development must be linked with raw material zones, deep processing, and consumption markets. The commune focuses on disseminating and guiding residents to produce in accordance with technical workflows, driving linkages among farmers, cooperatives, and enterprises, and creating favorable conditions for businesses to invest in deep processing, brand building, and OCOP product development.”
Mường Ảng commune is coordinating with Detech Coffee Joint Stock Company to deploy site clearance for the Coffee Deep Processing Factory Project. Currently, the project has cleared around 10 out of 13 ha of ground. Once the factory is completed, it will create a breakthrough in deep processing, upgrading local coffee consumption capacity, reducing dependence on raw material sales, expanding production-processing-consumption linkages, creating more jobs, and elevating the value of Mường Ảng coffee beans.
The synchronous development of raw material zones, the stepping up of production linkages, and the attraction of enterprises to invest in deep processing are building a baseline for Mường Ảng to form a sustainable coffee value chain. When the Detech Coffee Deep Processing Factory enters operations, the value of coffee beans will be elevated right within the raw material zone and consumption outlets will expand, contributing to affirming the Mường Ảng coffee brand in the market.
