Attending the conference were Nguyễn Văn Đoạt, Member of the Executive Board of thư provincial Party Committee and Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee; leadership representatives of provincial departments, sectors, and localities; representatives of the Viet Nam Union of Friendship Organizations and the World Vision Japan Support Office, alongside partner organizations and individuals who have accompanied the program over the past two decades.

From 2006 to the present, World Vision International has coordinated with administrations, specialized sectors, and local communities to execute programs and projects directed toward child welfare and community development across Điện Biên. Support initiatives concentrated on child care and protection, education, sustainable livelihoods, health, nutrition, clean water, environmental sanitation, disaster prevention and response, and community resilience building.

The programs were rolled out across 26 communes, reaching 134,422 individuals with a total budget exceeding USD 46.4 million. Within this framework, more than 69,300 children received direct support through child protection interventions and participation promotion; nearly 19,000 households received economic development assistance; and almost 23,000 children were supported in health and nutrition. Vocational training and career guidance initiatives attracted 2,365 participants, while roughly 14,800 residents attended training on disaster risk management and mitigation.

At the conference, World Vision International executed the handover of project achievements and operational models under the Tuần Giáo Area Development Program for local authorities to receive, maintain, and expand.

Following 20 years of execution, the program and its component projects mobilized a total committed budget surpassing USD 9.5 million, focusing on child care, education, child protection, school meal enhancement, and livelihood development. Tuần Giáo commune currently maintains 46 child-focused savings groups, generating over VND 300 million in annual savings.

Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyễn Văn Đoạt recognized and expressed gratitude to World Vision International, along with organizations, individuals, and partners who have walked alongside Điện Biên over the past 20 years, contributing supplementary resources to care for and protect children, improve local livelihoods, and propel community development forward.

Regarding the Tuần Giáo Area Development Program, Nguyễn Văn Đoạt requested relevant agencies and the People’s Committee of Pú Nhung commune to take over all program outcomes and operational models in full; clearly designate managing bodies, responsible personnel, and operational resources post-handover; and assess and select effective models to sustain and replicate in alignment with practical conditions.

The Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee requested the Department of Foreign Affairs to continue acting as the focal point liaising with World Vision International. At the same time, he expressed the desire that the organization continue sharing expertise and providing technical assistance during the post-handover phase, helping safeguard achieved outcomes, particularly in child care, protection, and welfare support.

Sharing future orientations, leadership of World Vision International Viet Nam affirmed ongoing coordination with Điện Biên province in areas matching practical local needs.

The conference featured the milestone ritual “Bauhinia of the Future,” commemorating the 20-year journey of walking alongside the children and communities of Điện Biên.
