Recently, more than 1,000 students at Him Lam Secondary School in Mường Thanh ward were extremely excited and delighted to learn about local history in a very special way. Through the program “Communication - Education on the cultural traditions and historical values of Điện Biên through AI video and free tour,” historical knowledge that was once dry was conveyed through emotional storytelling.
The highlight of the program was the students’ participation in a simulated tour experience. Right on the school grounds, through images, the students were introduced to the Điện Biên Phủ Victory Museum and visited the scenic spots and historical relics of Điện Biên under the guidance of a local tour guide.
At each destination, they filmed, interviewed, and learned about the traditions on the spot. After this very interesting experience, the students will participate in an AI video design competition titled “Điện Biên - History and culture come alive through the stories of students,” using the very information, data, and images they obtained through the simulated tour. From this, historical knowledge is presented by the students in the form of lively, accessible media products. At the same time, this awakens a sense of responsibility in preserving and spreading the traditional cultural and historical values of Điện Biên.
Nguyễn Nguyên Kiệt, a student in class 6A1 at Him Lam Secondary School, shared: “We were able to learn and were guided on how to use AI software to film and edit videos introducing the relics and customs of Điện Biên. We also got to play the role of ‘junior tour guides,’ narrating stories about culture and history in our own creative style. Thanks to this, historical knowledge is no longer dry information in textbooks but has become vivid and interesting, attracting us to learn and explore.”
At Huổi Lèng Ethnic Minority Semi-Boarding Secondary School in Mường Tùng commune, for the first time, the program “Communication and Introduction to the Điện Biên Phủ Victory and Experiential Activities” was organized by the school in coordination with the Điện Biên Phủ Victory Museum right on the school’s campus.
Through the program, nearly 350 students of the school were able to visit the photo exhibition “The Civilian Laborer Force in the Điện Biên Phủ Campaign,” with 68 photos displayed according to historical themes, timelines, and content.
Even more impressively, the students also participated in exciting learning activities, intellectual games, and creative experiences. Particularly engaging were the experiential activities with games that strongly reflected the military environment, such as: Team wheel, quick attack - quick victory, and supplying food and carrying ammunition.
Teacher Đào Xuân Lợi, Principal of Huổi Lèng Ethnic Minority Semi-Boarding Secondary School, said: “Through the program, especially through the experiential activities, we have helped create an exciting learning atmosphere, helping the students to supplement their historical knowledge in an intuitive, vivid, and easy-to-absorb way. It also helps them practice life skills and stimulates their creativity and acuity.”
Excited by the lively and attractive experiential activities, student Lý Thị Bích Vân of class 9D3 believes this is the method that helps them learn about local history in a close, vivid, and memorable way. “Through the experiential activities, we can better understand the good traditions left by the previous generations. From there, it nurtures in us a sense of pride, love for our homeland, and an awareness of appreciating and preserving local cultural and historical traditions,” said Lý Thị Bích Vân.
According to the plan, this coming December, using social mobilization funds, Huổi Lèng Ethnic Minority Semi-Boarding Secondary School will organize a field trip for about 30 students to visit and experience some of the province’s historical relic sites. This is to help them develop a greater love for the subject of history and a deeper understanding of revolutionary traditions.
No longer confined to classroom lessons, local history education is being innovated by schools through many different and rich activities. Creating useful “playgrounds” and engaging experiences instead of rigid, one-way knowledge delivery has helped students to not only be passionate about acquiring, exploring, and discovering historical knowledge but also to form a correct learning attitude, improving the quality of teaching for the subject.
