Attending the event were officials including: Mr. Trần Quốc Cường, Member of the Party Central Committee and Secretary of the provincial Party Committee; Mr. Mùa A Sơn, Standing Deputy Secretary of the provincial Party Committee; Mr. Lò Văn Phương, Member of the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the provincial People’s Council; and Mr. Mùa A Vảng, Alternate Member of the Party Central Committee, Member of the Standing Board of the provincial Party Committee, and Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province, among others.
In his opening speech, Chairman of the Điện Biên Đông District People’s Committee Vũ Ngọc Hoành emphasized that the 9th Traditional Bullfighting Competition and the Ất Tỵ Spring Festival 2025 were organized on a grand scale, attracting tens of thousands of people from within the district, neighboring districts, provinces, and even international visitors.
These events are a meaningful way to welcome the New Year, promote the image of Điện Biên Đông as a friendly and hospitable destination, and provide a variety of vibrant and engaging activities, including bullfighting, traditional costume contests, singing competitions, Bánh Chưng wrapping and Bánh Giầy pounding contests, Tù Lu spinning, Pao throwing, and other cultural events.
The official further stated that the 9th Traditional Bullfighting Competition and the Ất Tỵ Spring Festival 2025 aim to preserve, develop, and promote the unique cultural identity of the ethnic groups in Điện Biên Đông, thereby fostering cultural and tourism development and contributing to the district’s socio-economic progress. The events also honor skilled cattle-raising families, providing a platform for them to exchange experiences and techniques in cattle breeding; while encouraging locals to engage in productive labor, boost household economy, and achieve sustainable poverty reduction.
The 9th Traditional Bullfighting Competition featured 54 strong and well-trained bulls, delivering thrilling matches with intense competition and skillful maneuvers that captivate spectators. The event drew large crowds of residents and tourists eager to witness and cheer for the matches.
Besides bullfighting, the district also hosted a variety of vibrant cultural and sports activities to celebrate the New Year. These included a traditional costume contest, exhibitions showcasing the cultural heritage of ethnic minority groups, cultural exchanges and performances, Bánh Chưng wrapping and Bánh Giầy pounding contests, as well as sports competitions such as tug-of-war, cross-country running, Tù Lu spinning, and Pao throwing.
