Personally brought as seeds from his hometown to be planted during his years of service at the Leng Su Sìn Border Post, the lotus pond today has become a scenic highlight, a traditional education site, and a meaningful stopover on the journey to explore the Điện Biên borderlands.
Situated right at the gate of the Leng Su Sìn Border Post along National Highway 4H, the roughly 300-square-meter lotus pond creates favorable conditions for cadres, local residents, and tourists to stop by, visit, and capture beautiful moments on their journey back to the nation’s borderlands.
Far from being just a simple landscape amidst the vast forests, the lotus pond also preserves the story of a difficult yet proud era, when the border guard soldier Trần Văn Thọ and his comrades persistently stuck to the villages, stayed close to the people, and disseminated and mobilized the Hà Nhì ethnic people to protect the land and firmly safeguard national border sovereignty.
Concurrently, they guided the villagers to familiarize themselves with new production methods, including wet rice cultivation techniques.
Every time the lotuses bloom, pale pink petals rise amidst the green of the mountains and forests, radiating a gentle fragrance that refreshes the space of the remote borderlands. The thin, light, pale pink lotus petals are softly layered, embracing the yellow pistil and standing out against the background of wide green leaves, creating a harmonious and peaceful natural picture.
Whenever the mountain breeze glides by, the mild lotus scent spreads through the air, carrying the elegance of a flower associated with simple yet noble beauty.
To preserve the beauty and value of the lotus pond, every year the officers and soldiers of the Leng Su Sìn Border Post maintain care and refurbishment. Their efforts range from cleaning the pond surface, weeding, trimming plants, and replenishing the water source to fertilizing and protecting each new lotus sprout.
The lotus colors at the Leng Su Sìn Border Post today serve as both a landscape highlight and a symbol of enduring vitality, military-civilian sentiment, and the continuation of the noble values that Heroic Martyr Trần Văn Thọ left behind on the westernmost borderland of the Fatherland.
