Tìa Dình is an exceptionally difficult commune featuring a terrain predominantly made up of high mountains, heavily dissected by numerous streams and steep slopes. The entire commune currently logs 112.06km of transport roads, encompassing 21.78km of concrete roads, 37.62km of gravel roads, and the remaining 52.7km of dirt roads. Given the large proportion of dirt roads, whenever the rainy season begins, the commune’s transport network constantly faces the risk of landslides and blockages.
In reality, during the rainy and stormy season of 2025, multiple heavy rain drives caused severe damage to local transport infrastructure. More than 105km of roads were affected by landslides, road surface erosion, and subgrade damage. Highly impacted routes included the Pá Vạt - Háng Lìa - Tìa Dình route, the Háng Lìa - Tìa Mùng - Huổi Sông route, the Chua Ta - Na Su route, and the Tìa Dình - Na Hay - Háng Sua - Sam Kha route. At certain times, multiple villages were completely isolated due to slided soil and rocks, rendering vehicles unable to circulate, which made accessing essential services and transporting agricultural products highly difficult.
Under the impacts of climate change, increasingly extreme weather developments with continuous heavy rains keep putting pressure on the commune’s already difficult transport network. Currently, numerous roads across the commune, especially inter-village routes, have experienced landslides. On the roads leading into Huổi Sông, Tìa Mùng, Huổi Va A, Huổi Va B, Huổi Tống, Na Su, Púng Báng, and Tìa Ghếnh villages, road surfaces in many sections are deeply sunken, and soil and rocks have spilled onto the roadways, causing many obstacles for residents’ circulation.
“Every time it rains, the road into the village is very difficult to travel,” Giàng Thị Minh, a resident of Tào La village in Tìa Dình commune, shared. “There are muddy sections where wheels sink deeply, forcing residents to push their bikes or walk. Transporting corn, rice, and agricultural products down to the commune center is highly arduous. We hope that authorities at all levels will continue to pay attention to investing in and repairing roads so that local people can travel more conveniently, especially during the rainy season.”
The degradation of roads directly impacts the socio-economic development process of the locality. Many areas of agricultural products reaching harvest time face difficulties in transportation, increasing production costs and reducing economic efficiency.
Facing those difficulties, the Tìa Dình commune authorities have proactively formulated response options, regularly inspecting the current state of roads and reviewing positions with high landslide risks for timely handling. Concurrently, the locality motivates on-the-spot forces to clear soil and rocks and dredge ditches and culverts to ensure proper drainage, thereby limiting damages when heavy rains occur.
Nguyễn Văn Đô, Vice Chairman of the Tìa Dình commune People’s Committee, stated that the commune’s transport network currently faces many difficulties, and the large proportion of dirt roads makes it highly susceptible to impacts during prolonged heavy rains. He noted that right from the beginning of the rainy season, the commune directed villages to proactively inspect points with landslide risks and mobilize local forces to fix minor damaged spots. For major landslide locations that exceed local capacities, the commune has compiled reports to higher authorities to request timely resource support for handling.
The Pá Vạt - Háng Lìa - Tìa Dình road route leading to Sam Kha in Sơn La province is an arterial transport route connecting trade, serving residents’ travel, and contributing to driving regional socio-economic development. However, many sections of this route have currently experienced muddy conditions and road surface erosion, posing latent risks to traffic safety during the rainy season.
This road falls under the management of the Department of Construction. Currently, the provincial Project Management Board of Traffic Construction Works is conducting the formulation of investment policies for the road construction. The people of Tìa Dình commune expect that the project will soon be deployed to step-by-step complete the transport infrastructure, creating a driving force for economic development and upgrading local living standards.
The rainy season still harbors many unpredictable developments, but with the firm determination of the party committee, authorities, and local people, the work of overcoming landslides and ensuring traffic safety across Tìa Dình commune is being deployed urgently and effectively, thereby satisfying the travel needs of local citizens.
