Strategic planting: From tradition to commodity production

ĐBP - At the onset of 2026, the movement has taken on a strictly professional tone, with local authorities aligning spring activities with specific regional flagship crops.

In Chiềng Sinh, for example, the new year was ushered in with a massive launch in the Mường Khong area, focusing specifically on Macadamia trees. Beyond the initial planting, residents in villages like Ta Cơn and Ly Xôm are already preparing coffee seedlings for the upcoming rainy season.

Hà Cầm Hồng, Secretary of the Chiềng Sinh commune Party Committee, emphasized that this isn’t just a seasonal event but a calculated step toward their 2030 goal of managing 3,700 hectares of Macadamia and over 2,000 hectares of coffee. For 2026 alone, the commune expects to put 1,500 hectares of macadamia and 1,000 hectares of coffee into production, reflecting a powerful local consensus on agricultural restructuring.

In Mường Mùn commune, the atmosphere is arguably even more electric. The communal nurseries are buzzing with activity as residents from all 29 villages, representing 1,431 households, work together to pot young coffee plants. The village of Hỏm Hốc stands out as a prime example, where every single household has registered to participate, collectively dedicating 129 hectares of formerly exhausted upland soil to coffee.

Lò Văn Giót, Head of Hỏm Hốc village, noted that after years of struggling with corn and cassava, there is a palpable sense of hope attached to these green seedlings. According to Quàng Thị Như Quỳnh, Head of the Economic Department, the response has been so overwhelming that the first-year registration of 1,168 hectares has nearly touched the commune’s entire target for 2030 in a single leap.

The shift toward “green, smart, and sustainable” agriculture is equally evident in the border commune of Mường Nhà. Following the provincial Resolution No.11-NQ/TU, hundreds of officials and local citizens have joined forces to kickstart a 100-hectare pineapple project for 2026. This is the frontline of a long-term plan to develop a 600-hectare concentrated pineapple zone by 2030. Đặng Văn Tuấn, Chairman of the Mường Nhà commune People’s Committee, highlighted that the commune’s unique climate and vast land funds make pineapple a “spearhead” crop for the local economy. By integrating the Tree Planting Festival with the specific “Pineapple Expansion” movement, the commune is effectively zoning its land for large-scale commodity production.

This spring’s movement proves that when tradition meets strategic planning, the results are transformative. Every seedling put into the soil this month is more than just a plant; it is a commitment to an stable economic future where Điện Biên’s hills are as productive as they are green.
