Spreading green agriculture model in Điện Biên

ĐBP - In recent times, a number of cooperatives and farming households in the province have invested in net house models and organic crop care with the aim of bringing safe agricultural products to the market, meeting the increasingly strict demands of consumers. These models are gradually forming a path towards building a green, circular agriculture in Điện Biên.

To create clean agricultural products, in 2020, the family of Ms. Hán Thị Tiệp in Huổi Phạ village, Điện Biên Phủ ward, invested in building a net house system for growing melons, with a total area of 1,000m². The model uses a drip irrigation method, which allows nutrients from fertilizer dissolved in water to be supplied to the base of each plant, effectively meeting the needs of each growth stage while also saving water. The surrounding membrane and net system prevents insects from entering and harming the crops, adjusts the light intensity, and minimizes pests and diseases.

Starting with a green circular agriculture model, Ms. Tiệp’s family has become a successful economic household, gradually spreading this new direction in agricultural production to local people. Ms. Hán Thị Tiệp shared: “Building a green circular agriculture model is difficult to achieve without perseverance. However, this model produces high-quality products that are safe for consumers. Importantly, it also makes a significant contribution to protecting the environment.”

In Ten Luống village, Mường Thanh ward, the grapes from Mr. Cà Văn Thành’s family are beginning to bring sustainable value to both producers and consumers.

Instead of traditional planting methods, Mr. Thành applies a Y-shaped trellis model with a roof, and a cultivation process that is strictly, scientifically, and meticulously managed, from selecting the variety and preparing the soil, to providing nutrition, pruning, and preventing pests and diseases using organic methods. The membrane house system helps control temperature, humidity, light, and wind, and especially prevents harmful insects and diseases. The automatic drip and mist irrigation systems provide water evenly, economically, and effectively. The trellis system creates an airy space for the plants to grow. This results in high-quality grape products, improves production efficiency, and can mitigate the risks of weather impacts on the crops.

Not stopping at producing clean grapes, Mr. Thành’s family has also developed a model of “Green circular agriculture combined with experiential tourism.” This is a new direction that is both highly effective and helps to promote the market for agricultural products, while also contributing to building a new, attractive, and environmentally friendly tourism product.

According to Mr. Thành, growing crops organically is more laborious than conventional farming because all stages must adhere to strict technical procedures. He chose this production model because the demand for clean products is growing, and consumers are demanding higher quality.

To develop sustainable clean agriculture models, the province has had many policies in recent years to encourage and attract all economic sectors to invest in building new or expanding existing models, thereby creating agricultural products with high economic value. From 2021 to the present, the province has implemented more than 400 programs and projects to support the development of clean agriculture, with a cultivation scale of over 10,000 hectares.

Mr. Phạm Đình Lai, Head of the Sub-department of Agriculture under the Department of Agriculture and Environment, said: “When implementing the green circular agriculture model, it will reduce pollution of the soil, water, and air. It reduces the use of pesticides, chemical fertilizers, and growth stimulants, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The product quality is enhanced, ensuring food safety and increasing the product’s value.”

The green circular agriculture models in the province are creating an important turning point for developing agriculture in a modern and sustainable direction. The application of science and technology in clean, safe agricultural production is a superior solution, creating a new path and gradually forming specialized crop cultivation areas in the province. The green circular agriculture model creates quality products, enhances competitiveness, brings economic efficiency to farmers, and at the same time, changes the spontaneous, fragmented production habits and avoids risks and losses.
