Quài Tở enters coffee harvest season

ĐBP - From September to December each year, farmers in Quài Tở Commune begin the coffee harvest season,  a time that symbolizes the fruits of their year-long hard work. The hillsides covered in ripening red coffee cherries have become a vivid emblem of prosperity for this highland community.

In recent years, thanks to stable coffee prices, this crop has not only become the main source of income for many households but also created seasonal jobs for hundreds of workers from nearby areas. Currently, Quài Tở Commune has 1,635.18 hectares of coffee, including 640.21 hectares of newly planted trees. Key coffee-producing villages include Chế Á, Hua Sa A, Hua Sa B, and Háng Tàu.

At dawn, Quài Tở farmers head to the hills to pick coffee.

When harvest season arrives, the entire commune buzzes with activity, from picking and transporting to buying and selling. At the start of the season, farmers mainly handpick the cherries to ensure only ripe fruits are harvested, preserving product quality. Moving from row to row, they pick the coffee cherries and pour them into baskets before bagging and weighing them for sale.

Mr. Mùa A Tùng from Chế Á village carefully selects ripe coffee cherries.

Mr. Mùa A Tùng, a farmer from Chế Á Village, shared: “My family has 2 hectares of coffee, of which 1 hectare is in harvest, producing about 6-7 tons of fresh coffee annually. That gives us an income of around VND 150 to 200 million per year. We also hire 3-4 local workers, paying them about VND 4,000-5,000 per kilogram picked. This year’s purchase price is higher, ranging from VND 21,000 to 23,000 per kilogram, so everyone is very excited.”

Coffee gardens in Chế Á are heavy with fruit as the harvest season begins.

Many households now work directly with local purchasing workshops. Each afternoon, trucks come right to the farms to weigh and pay for the coffee on-site, helping farmers save on transportation costs and access funds more quickly. To achieve such bountiful harvests, Quài Tở farmers spend the whole year carefully tending their crops, fertilizing, pruning, and controlling pests at the right time. The application of new techniques and knowledge from training sessions organized by the commune has helped improve both productivity and quality.

Mr. Nhữ Duy Đông, Chairman of the Quài Tở commune People’s Committee, noted: “After the administrative merger, we identified long-term industrial crops as a sustainable development direction. The commune has worked closely with specialized agencies to support farmers in every stage, from cultivation and pest prevention to product marketing.”

Freshly picked coffee is bagged and awaits traders.

The coffee harvest season in Quài Tở is not only a time of labor but also a season of joy and hope. Each bag of freshly picked coffee, each smiling face on the sunlit hillsides, reflects the bright transformation of this upland village, where people are striving toward sustainable production, higher incomes, and stronger contributions to local economic growth.
