By proactively developing the economy through clean agriculture, Nam Dương Cooperative now operates a safe vegetable and fruit supply chain with 13 hectares certified under VietGAP. Its main product is winter melon, with more than 10 hectares planted in the former Mường Mươn commune (now Mường Pồn commune) and the rest in Na Sang Commune. On average, the cooperative produces around 650 tons of winter melon each year.
Currently, cooperative workers are preparing for the winter crop. All rows are covered with nylon to reduce evaporation, weeds, and pests. Bamboo and wooden trellises have been replaced with netted frames for the vines, while drip irrigation technology is used to maintain soil moisture, ensure proper fruit nutrition, and reduce labor costs.
According to Trần Xuân Thanh, Director of Nam Dương Cooperative, the cooperative’s winter melons are mainly supplied to large, demanding markets such as Hanoi, Hưng Yên, and Hải Phòng. “That is why our production process and product quality are always our top priorities,” he explained. “Participating in a safe food supply chain is an inevitable trend to ensure stable markets and, above all, to maintain our reputation.”

Currently, Điện Biên has 24 certified safe food supply chains, including 4 rice chains, 2 coffee chains, 3 tea chains, and 15 chains for vegetables, tubers, fruits, miến dong, khẩu xén, and macadamia.
Since 2017, Phan Nhất Tea Co., Ltd. in Mường Lạn commune has strictly followed the principle of avoiding harmful chemicals in its tea cultivation. Pesticides and growth enhancers come entirely from organic and biological sources. These were the first steps toward sustainable clean agriculture.
Today, of the company’s 12 hectares of tea in Mường Lạn, 5 hectares have been certified organic. According to Director Phan Trọng Nhất, the company now produces nine tea products, among which Shan tuyết PH.14 tea and Phan Nhất green tea have been recognized as 4-star OCOP products, and one other tea has achieved 3-star OCOP status.
The company’s teas are popular with consumers, serving both domestic demand and, increasingly, international markets. For about three years, its Bạch Trà product has been exported to South Korea, averaging more than 100 kilograms of dried tea per year.
As consumer demand increasingly focuses on quality and food safety, clean agriculture has become an inevitable trend. Keeping pace, many new farming models have emerged in Điện Biên with the goal of producing clean, safe products and developing a sustainable agricultural economy.
According to the 2025 crop production report by the Department of Agriculture and Environment, the province currently has three certified organic facilities with a total of 13.75 hectares: 5 hectares of tea from Phan Nhất Tea Co., Ltd.; 3.7 hectares of fruit from Cara Farm Vietnam Co., Ltd.; and more than 5 hectares of vegetables and fruits from Si Pa Phìn High-Tech Agricultural Cooperative. In addition, several VietGAP-certified farming models have been established, including 13 hectares of winter melon from Nam Dương Cooperative; 10.5 hectares of macadamia from the Điện Biên Macadamia Development and Forestry Seed Joint Stock Company; and 5 hectares of rice from the Bản Đun Rice Cooperative.
Building sustainable clean agriculture models has become Điện Biên’s long-term goal. The province will continue to direct localities to accelerate agricultural restructuring, prioritize clean, safe, and competitive agricultural products, and develop signature crops into OCOP products while improving the quality of existing OCOP goods. At the same time, Điện Biên will support enterprises and cooperatives to join trade promotion programs and showcase local products, thereby boosting the consumption of its agricultural goods.
