With a large natural area, mostly agricultural land, Tuần Giáo commune has favorable conditions to form concentrated raw material areas. The cool climate, fertile soil, and stable rainfall are suitable for long-term industrial crops like macadamia and coffee; the labor force is abundant and experienced in agricultural production. Taking advantage of that, Tuần Giáo commune has promoted the implementation of the OCOP program to develop key local products.
Phạm Hữu Chiến, Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Tuần Giáo commune, stated: To effectively exploit local advantages, the commune focuses on propaganda and mobilizing people to change crop structures and agricultural production and farming methods; replacing inefficient short-term crops on sloping land with key crops having high economic efficiency such as macadamia, coffee, and some fruit trees. To date, the macadamia area in the whole commune has reached nearly 2,400ha, the coffee area reached over 609ha, and the area of various fruit trees is over 67ha.
Tuần Giáo commune also focuses on transforming production forms from individual households to cooperative groups and cooperatives linking production with product consumption to increase revenue, profit, and income for workers; strengthening investment attraction in agricultural production from planting and care to product underwriting. Currently, the commune has 25 cooperative groups and 2 cooperatives participating in the value chain linkage project associated with macadamia products supported by national target programs and agricultural production support capital.
The entire Tuần Giáo commune currently has 16 recognized OCOP products; of which 2 products achieved 4-star standards and 14 products achieved 3-star standards. Most key products are from macadamia and coffee, typical examples include: Hồng Kỳ International coffee HK 13; Arabica Espresso (HK 10 whole bean coffee); Thoa Doãn macadamia nuts; Thoa Doãn crispy dried macadamia kernels; Việt Hà macadamia; Thoa Quang cracked shell dried macadamia... In the coming period, Tuần Giáo commune aims to continue expanding the macadamia and coffee area to 4,000ha to develop more local characteristic products.
Having ideal natural conditions to develop crops such as: Purple taro, glutinous corn, upland rice, medicinal plants (Solanum procumbens), and livestock (buffaloes, cows, goats), Tủa Chùa commune has utilized advantages to create characteristic agricultural products with distinct highland flavors. The commune mobilized people to switch from self-sufficient production to commodity production; proactively selecting new products to participate in the annual OCOP program; consulting and guiding subjects to perfect products and OCOP product evaluation and ranking dossiers; supporting product promotion and consumption... To date, Tủa Chùa commune has 14 OCOP products recognized as reaching 3 stars, such as: Diệp thanh tea, wild honey, Mông pê wine, purple taro, kitchen-smoked buffalo meat, kitchen-smoked pork belly, Solanum procumbens tea... The products are trusted and highly appreciated for quality by consumers.
Lê Xuân Cảnh, Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, shared that utilizing potentials and advantages regarding natural conditions, climate, land, human resources, and experience in agricultural production... the province has encouraged localities to promote the advantage of developing characteristic products of each commune. Thereby building brands and increasing economic value for agricultural, handicraft, and fine art products. Along with that, the province promotes the restructuring of the agricultural sector towards increasing production value, focusing on supporting the development of key agricultural products and local strengths such as: Rice, macadamia, coffee... to develop into OCOP products, building agricultural brands associated with geographical indications and exports.
As of June 2025, the whole province has 138 OCOP products, of which 5 products reached 4 stars and 133 products reached 3 stars. Most products belong to the food group (122 products), the rest are beverages, handicrafts, community tourism services, eco-tourism, and tourist destinations. To continue implementing the OCOP program effectively, in the coming time, the provincial People’s Committee encourages localities to develop rural economic models; promoting indigenous cultural values, ecological landscapes, and characteristic agricultural products to develop community tourism and agricultural tourism; forming concentrated agricultural production areas associated with deep processing, improving value and competitiveness of characteristic agricultural products. Thereby, developing local OCOP products, building brands, creating jobs, and raising income for people.
