Awakening potential of Tuần Giáo’s agricultural products

ĐBP - The leadership of Tuần Giáo has moved beyond traditional farming toward a modern, multi-value agricultural model that leverages digital technology and scientific progress.

This strategic shift focuses heavily on creating a synchronized value chain for its flagship crops, specifically macadamia and coffee. Today, Tuần Giáo stands as a provincial leader in macadamia cultivation with nearly 2,396 hectares, of which 350 hectares are already being harvested, yielding approximately 2,442 tons. The coffee sector is equally robust, spanning over 609 hectares and producing 165 tons of coffee beans from its initial 67.45 hectares of harvestable land.

The commune has proactively restructured its land use, converting inefficient plots into concentrated raw material zones managed under strict VietGAP and organic standards. This professionalization is supported by 25 cooperative groups and two major agricultural cooperatives that serve as the essential link between farmers, enterprises, and distributors.

The success of this model is reflected in the 17 local products that have earned OCOP certification, including 15 three-star and two four-star products. Renowned local brands such as Hồng Kỳ International Coffee HK13, Arabica Espresso, and Việt Hà macadamia have become trusted names among consumers, proving that quality and branding are key to modernizing the rural economy.

The Thoa Quang dried macadamia nut product has become a favorite among consumers for its quality and consistency.

Looking toward the 2026-2030 period, Quàng Văn Cương, Chairman of the Tuần Giáo commune People’s Committee, envisions an expansion of these flagship crops to a total of 4,000 hectares. A significant portion of this, 3,000 hectares, will be managed through digital databases and mapping, while 30 hectares will pilot high-tech smart farming techniques.

To provide a safety net for local farmers, Tuần Giáo has secured a landmark agreement with Viet Bac Coffee Export-Import Co., Ltd. The company has committed to purchasing all local coffee products until the year 2050, ensuring a price floor that will never drop below VND 10,000 per kilogram or USD 0.4 per kilogram, whichever is higher. This guaranteed “landing zone” allows residents to invest confidently in advanced care techniques to further improve crop quality.

The spirit of innovation is also touching other crops, such as the Green J chili project in Phung village. More than 40 households have pooled their land to cultivate 4.5 hectares of chili under a guaranteed buyback contract with a partnering enterprise.

Under the guidance of leaders like Lò Duy Thiểm, the village Party Cell Secretary, farmers are mastering precise techniques for fertilization and pest control, with expected yields reaching 50 tons per hectare. This synchronized effort between the government, cooperatives, and farmers is doing more than just “awakening” potential; it is building a sustainable, resilient economy that provides stable jobs and rising incomes for the people of Tuần Giáo.
