ĐBP - Mường Pồn commune, Điện Biên province once bore the brunt of nature’s fury during a devastating flash flood a year ago. Landslides, raging streams, homes swept away, fields destroyed, and lives lost forever. One year later, we return, witnessing not only changes in the landscape but also the indomitable will to live of the people here. Through grit and resilience, the flood-stricken community of Mường Pồn is rebuilding and reviving day by day.

ĐBP - In the white curtain of torrential rain and the deafening roar of the mountains, a decisive act and an urgent phone call by village head Mùa A Thi saved 21 households with 90 people from the jaws of death during a devastating flash flood in the early hours of August 1.

ĐBP - Heavy rains and flooding on the night of July 31 and early morning of August 1 in Xa Dung, Mường Luân, and Na Son communes in Điện Biên province caused power outages at 97 transformer stations, affecting a total of 8,960 customers. The Điện Biên Power Company is urgently mobilizing forces to restore electricity as quickly as possible for residents.

ĐBP - Broken stone benches, rusty exercise equipment, and scattered trash have become common sights at many parks and public playgrounds in Điện Biên Phủ ward and Mường Thanh ward, Điện Biên province`. Facilities once built to serve the community are now falling into disrepair, neglected, and poorly maintained, leading to waste and affecting residents’ ability to gather, exercise, and engage in sports activities.

ĐBP - Due to the prolonged heavy rains in recent days, many areas in Điện Biên province have experienced landslides or face a high risk of landslides that threaten the lives and property of residents. In response, Party committees, local authorities at all levels, and relevant agencies have promptly implemented measures to ensure the safety of the people in the face of potential natural disasters.

ĐBP - Without access to the national power grid and with poor infrastructure, all 77 households of the Hmông ethnic group in Hua Chăn village, Búng Lao commune, Điện Biên province, have long relied on swidden farming and small-scale livestock for survival. These are also the main reasons why the villagers remain stuck in poverty and hardship.

ĐBP - In recent times, cyber fraud has become increasingly sophisticated, with constantly changing methods and tactics. Despite repeated warnings, many people, especially in rural and mountainous areas in Điện Biên province, still fall victim, losing money to online scams.

ĐBP - After the administrative unit restructuring, a massive volume of documents from district-level agencies was handed over to the provincial Historical Archives Center under the Điện Biên provincial Department of Home Affairs, posing a “not easy” challenge for the province’s archival work in terms of preservation and utilization.

ĐBP - In recent years, the education sector of Điện Biên province has witnessed encouraging trends in pedagogical enrollments, signaling a renewed interest in the educational profession. Upholding that spirit, the province of Điện Biên has, in recent years, remained steadfast in implementing policies to support war veterans and revolution contributors, organizing meaningful initiatives to improve their physical and emotional well-being.

ĐBP - What was once considered a routine administrative formality, such as issuing marriage certificates or birth certificates, is now being transformed in many communes and wards in Điện Biên province into meaningful, respectful, and emotional ceremonies. By treating these legal documents with dignity, local authorities are marking a significant beginning for families and shifting public perception of government as one that is truly close to the people.

ĐBP - Upholding the tradition of “remembering the source of the water we drink,” the work of caring for people with meritorious services to the revolution has always received special attention from all levels and sectors across Điện Biên province.

ĐBP - Following the Prime Minister’s directive, Điện Biên province has actively implemented the 2025 Housing Support Project for people with meritorious services to the revolution and relatives of martyrs. With strong determination and concerted efforts from all levels of Party committees, authorities, and the involvement of the whole society, the housing support program for eligible beneficiaries in the province is currently on schedule.

ĐBP - Since early July, Mường Nhé commune in Điện Biên province has experienced persistent heavy rainfall, significantly raising the risk of landslides, especially along stream banks and steep hillsides. The commune’s Steering Committee for natural disaster prevention and search and rescue has swiftly assessed high-risk zones, maintained a close presence in affected communities, and mobilized personnel to help relocate residents from hazardous areas to safety.

ĐBP - The rugged terrain of Điện Biên province’s highland regions has long posed a barrier to the area’s socio-economic development. Among the many challenges, access to clean water, something that should be a basic need, remains a daily struggle for tens of thousands of households. Yet, thanks to concerted efforts by local authorities and international organizations, refreshing drops of clean water are beginning to quench that thirst, offering a future of safety, health, and sustainable development for highland communities.

ĐBP - The flood season always brings anxiety to residents in highland regions, as many villages lie at the foot of hills and mountains. The unpredictable weather during this time increases the risk of landslides and flash floods.

ĐBP - With a relatively dense system of rivers and streams, during peak rainy season, floodwaters from upstream in Điện Biên province often bring along large quantities of wood and debris. On these swollen, fast-flowing currents, many residents continue to risk their lives venturing out to rivers and streams to collect floating firewood or catch fish, ignoring repeated warnings about the dangers.
