For many years, the family of Tín Lao Hán, residing in Tả Sìn Thàng village, Sín Chải commune, has been among the “chronically” poor in the area. Their makeshift house had severely deteriorated. Though he longed for a new home, due to extremely difficult circumstances, Hán had no means to build one. His wife left over 10 years ago, and he himself suffers from illness and a lack of mental clarity, so he stays at home farming maize and planting rice. His son, now over 20 years old, is mute and uneducated, occasionally working as a porter or dishwasher for eateries in the commune center. As a result, the family often suffers from hunger and relies on government-supported rice every year.
Sympathizing with the family’s hardship, in March 2025, the Việt Nam Fatherland Front Committee of the province decided to provide financial support of VND 60 million from social mobilization funds to help Hán and his son build a new house. After more than a month of construction with additional support from relatives in terms of materials and labor, a new house over 40m2 in size, worth nearly VND 70 million, was completed, bringing great joy to the family.

In the first six months of 2025, the “For the poor” Fund at all levels received more than VND 63.3 billion. From the mobilized funds, the Việt Nam Fatherland Front Committee of the province allocated VND 50.1 billion to support the construction of 835 new houses for poor households in localities throughout the province, with each household receiving VND 60 million. As of early June, 808 out of 835 houses have been completed (reaching nearly 97%).
Notably, from the provincial “For the poor” Fund, the Việt Nam Fatherland Front Committee of the province allocated VND 15 billion to build great solidarity houses for 300 poor and near-poor households in border villages. Each household received VND 50 million. After more than 5 months of implementation, by the end of March 2025, all 300 houses were completed, inspected, and put into use. These included 122 traditional wooden houses, 118 steel-frame houses, and 60 brick houses, ranging in size from 36m2 to 102m2.
Mùa A Vảng, Chairman of the Việt Nam Fatherland Front Committee of the province, shared that its chapters at all levels have focused on strengthening communication to foster unity among officials, Party members, workers, and the public in implementing the movement. They have worked in coordination to accurately identify poor and near-poor households and those with housing difficulties for timely and effective support, ensuring it reaches the right beneficiaries. At the same time, they actively mobilize and connect with organizations, businesses, and localities to contribute funds to the program of eliminating makeshift and dilapidated houses.
Building on the achieved results and continuing the effective implementation of the emulation movement “Joining Hands to Eliminate Makeshift and Dilapidated Houses for Poor Households in Điện Biên province in 2025,” the Việt Nam Fatherland Front organizations at all levels will enhance coordination with local authorities to inspect and urge the implementation of housing support. Additionally, they will intensify efforts to mobilize socialized resources to financially assist households in difficult circumstances to eliminate temporary and substandard housing in the near future.
