ĐBP – On May 16, the provincial People's Committee agreed to the proposal by the interagency coalition and the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism to stop all traffic from crossing Mường Thanh Bridge (part of the special national historic site of the Điện Biên Phủ battlefield) in order to protect and preserve the historic site.

The provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism to lead and coordinate with the Department of Transport and the People's Committee of Điện Biên Phủ City to agree on solutions for implementing tasks to establish a guiding system and traffic signage. This will direct vehicles through the area of the water diversion dam under the "Natural Disaster Management in the Nậm Rốm River Basin for Protecting Livelihoods, Climate Change Adaptation, and Socio-Economic Development" project. At the same time, a system to protect the Mường Thanh Bridge historic site will be established according to regulations.

Previously, on April 15, the People's Committee of Điện Biên Phủ City temporarily banned all vehicles from crossing Mường Thanh Bridge to install a lighting system on the bridge and other works as part of the project to tour the Nậm Rốm River area on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Điện Biên Phủ Victory. The lighting project, funded by France, is being directly carried out by lighting experts from the city of Lyon, France.
