Improving training quality, building resolve and determination among new recruits

ĐBP - Guided by the motto of “basic, practical, and solid training,” the Training and Mobility Battalion under the Điện Biên provincial Border Guard Command has been effectively training new recruits. The goal is to forge soldiers with strong political resolve, excellent technical and tactical skills, and enduring physical strength, ready to carry out all assigned missions with excellence.

In 2025, the battalion operated under challenging conditions: most training and management officers handled dual roles; multiple tasks were conducted simultaneously; and there remained shortages of training materials and instructional documents for certain subjects.

Responding to the 2025 combat training directive, the battalion organized refresher courses for the training cadre right from the beginning of the year, strictly following the principle: “Strengthen what is weak.” Based on higher-level plans, the unit developed detailed schedules and assigned teaching responsibilities to each individual, who were required to prepare lesson plans and rehearse them according to standard procedures. Special attention was given to pre-training preparation: training calendars, teaching aids, models, and other materials, all ensured to be thorough, scientific, and high-quality.

According to Major Dương Ngọc Anh, Deputy Commander of the battalion, the unit prioritized physical readiness, from training grounds and practice fields to teaching materials and manuals, to create a realistic combat training environment. This careful preparation lays the foundation for new recruits to develop essential skills and resilience for their future roles in the provincial Border Guard Command. In 2025, the battalion received over 175 new soldiers, who underwent 3 months of general military training and an additional 1.5 months of specialized Border Guard training. To date, they’ve gained well-rounded knowledge in politics, military skills, regulations, martial arts, physical training, and legal and professional expertise in border defense.

Thanks to this meticulous preparation, comprehensive assessments showed that 100% of training modules met or exceeded standards, with 78% rated as good or excellent. Key skills such as marksmanship, grenade-throwing, explosive handling, and camouflage techniques yielded high results with no accidents reported.

Currently, the Battalion is in the final stretch of the 1.5-month Border Guard specialization phase, a crucial period where recruits are equipped with legal knowledge, patrol and control procedures, martial arts, and teamwork skills, all necessary for future deployment to border posts, checkpoints, and ports of entry.

Second Lieutenant Hờ A Thái, Platoon Leader of Platoon 1, Training Company 1, said that although the recruits came from various regions with differing educational backgrounds, their swift adaptation was thanks to supportive leadership and a disciplined environment. Over time, the recruits have shown marked growth in awareness, behavior, and military bearing.

The training focuses on legal frameworks, patrol and inspection duties, individual and team tactics, martial arts, and real-world problem-solving. This ensures that soldiers graduate not only well-versed in theory but also skilled in practice, ready to protect national sovereignty and border security in today’s complex landscape.

Private Nguyễn Tuấn Anh of Squad 20, Platoon 3, Training Company 2, shared: “Throughout the training, I’ve developed the discipline of a soldier and learned essential combat and border defense skills. I’m committed to training hard and fulfilling my duties as a border guard.”

Beyond standard curriculum hours, the battalion introduced additional “eighth-hour” training sessions, including instruction on modern weaponry, endurance marches, sports events, and contests, fostering motivation and healthy competition across the unit.

With the spirit of “overcoming sun and rain, training with passion,” the new recruits have built solid willpower and mental strength, fully prepared to safeguard the country’s territorial integrity and border security under new conditions.
