Điện Biên leader meets with United Nations delegation in Việt Nam

ĐBP – Vừ A Bằng, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Điện Biên Province, met with Caroline Nyamayemombe, United Nations Women Representative in Việt Nam and the UN Women delegation on Thursday.

During the meeting, Bằng expressed his pleasure at welcoming the delegation to Điện Biên. He provided an overview of the province’s people, its socio-economic development, and the potential and strengths for agricultural, forestry, tourism, and clean energy industries.

He also discussed the local socio-economic development priorities and the province's hopes for UN Women’s contributions to sustainable development in the region, particularly in advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment.

Bằng emphasised that the Party, State, and Điện Biên Province have always prioritised policies for women and children. The province has concretised key directives and developed specific policies to ensure the legitimate rights and interests of women and children.

Caroline Nyamayemombe thanked the Điện Biên leader for his warm welcome. She expressed her satisfaction with the comprehensive cooperation between the province and UN Women in promoting gender equality and preventing and responding to gender-based violence in recent years.

Nyamayemombe affirmed that UN Women is committed to continuing its support for Điện Biên's efforts to advance gender equality and eliminate gender-based violence.

She noted that future initiatives will include activities to prevent and address violence against women and children, particularly supporting ethnic minority women and children in keeping pace with the province's and nation's development.

She also mentioned expanding partnerships into areas such as economic empowerment, violence prevention, and disaster response.
