Điện Biên and Lao districts sign 2025 border security agreement

ĐBP – Police from Điện Biên District in Việt Nam’s northern mountainous province of Điện Biên and May District in Laos’ Phongsaly province have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on maintaining security and order along their shared border. The agreement was made during talks held in Điện Biên District on October 15.

During their annual meeting, police from Điện Biên and May districts exchanged updates on recent socio-economic developments and efforts to maintain political security and social order in both regions.

They reviewed their collaboration in sharing information and combating drug-related crimes, including the illegal trade, storage, and transport of narcotics across the border.

The discussions also focused on securing the Việt Nam-Laos border and reinforcing the traditional relationship between the two districts.

According to the 2025 memorandum of understanding, both sides will prioritise information exchange and the preservation of political security and social order.

The police forces committed to closely monitoring developments, promptly sharing intelligence, and continuing their cooperation in the fight against crime, particularly in addressing drug trafficking and smuggling across the border.
