Điện Biên strives for applying AI in education

ĐBP - Amid the digital revolution, integrating artificial intelligence (AI) into lesson design and classroom instruction has become an inevitable trend.

The initial application of AI has already yielded significant results, maximizing teaching efficiency and enhancing the overall development of education.

Just over a month ago, Chà Nưa Semi-Boarding Primary School for Ethnic Minorities (Nậm Pồ District) conducted a professional workshop exploring AI-powered technology that converts images and text from textbooks into videos.

This advanced technology uses AI and image processing tools to transform static images, diagrams, and illustrations in textbooks into engaging and easy-to-understand videos. Despite being a relatively new approach, teachers at the school have shown great enthusiasm for incorporating AI into their teaching.

Teacher Thùng Thị Lợi from Chà Nưa Semi-Boarding Primary School for Ethnic Minorities shared that currently, they are gradually getting acquainted with AI applications in teaching. First, they use AI to transform static images into dynamic videos. By combining this with text-to-speech technology, they can create rich, easy-to-understand learning materials for students while saving time and effort.

“Although we are still in the early stages of exploring AI, I find it an incredibly useful tool that makes lesson planning and content delivery more engaging, ultimately sparking greater interest among students,” she added.

AI not only enhances student engagement but also simplifies and improves the effectiveness of teachers’ instruction. With simple commands and AI-powered software, teachers can generate visually engaging video illustrations, replacing static textbook images. Moreover, AI technology helps standardize pronunciation, which is particularly beneficial for teachers who may struggle with accurate pronunciation.

Mrs. Hoàng Thị Tuyết Nhung, Vice Principal of Chà Nưa Semi-Boarding Primary School for Ethnic Minorities, noted that some of teachers occasionally mispronounce words, but by using AI-powered text-to-speech technology, they can significantly reduce pronunciation errors. This is especially useful for first-grade teachers. Instead of having to read aloud during lessons, teachers can create pre-recorded AI-generated audio with precise pronunciation, ensuring students learn correct spelling and pronunciation.

To keep pace with technological advancements in education, many teachers are independently researching and experimenting with AI applications in their teaching. However, maximizing its effectiveness requires schools to invest in a comprehensive system, including smart TVs, wireless audio systems, computers, and multifunctional projectors that facilitate seamless data integration for instruction. Currently, many schools in the province face significant challenges, such as a lack of AI training for teachers, inadequate infrastructure, slow internet connections, and limited access to devices for students. All of which hinder the effective implementation of AI-powered teaching.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Phạm Thị Thu Hằng, Principal of Na Sang No.1 Semi-Boarding Primary School for Ethnic Minorities (Mường Chà District), explained that at present, there are no official AI training programs for teachers, so they have to explore and learn on our own. Some teachers even purchase software to experiment with AI-assisted teaching. However, effective implementation requires TVs, projectors, and computers - all of which must be synchronized.

“Our school currently has only five TVs and three projectors for 19 classes, making it difficult to fully integrate AI into our teaching. Despite these challenges, we actively encourage teachers to research and apply AI in lesson design to enhance the quality of education,” she underlined.

It is clear to say that AI-powered technology is significantly improving education quality by creating a more flexible, interactive, and innovative learning environment. Teachers can now leverage AI to develop lesson plans, generate content, and deliver knowledge more effectively. By incorporating AI-driven teaching methods, educators can foster a more engaging, proactive, and dynamic learning experience for students. This marks an important step forward in modernizing teaching and learning in the digital age.

Despite its numerous benefits, educators must carefully verify AI-generated content, ensure data privacy, and mitigate security risks. AI should be seen as a supportive tool rather than a replacement for teachers’ role in guiding and interacting with students.

At the same time, striking the right balance between AI integration and human-led instruction will ensure that the education sector harnesses the full potential of this groundbreaking technology.
