In recent years, through cultural, tourism, foreign affairs, and investment promotion activities, the image of Điện Biên has been increasingly showcased to a wider audience, leaving a positive impression on both domestic and international visitors and investors.
As a province with significant potential in tourism, agriculture, energy, and border-gate economics, along with a rich diversity of ethnic groups, cultures, customs, and traditions, Điện Biên possesses unique advantages for development and integration. However, geographical remoteness and limitations in transportation infrastructure have partly affected the province’s ability to promote itself and attract investment.
Recognizing these challenges, Điện Biên province has intensified efforts to promote its image in a more professional and modern manner, combining the preservation of historical values with the introduction of its socio-economic development potential. Numerous large scale cultural and tourism events have been organized, while foreign affairs, trade promotion, and investment promotion activities have been strengthened, helping bring the image of Điện Biên closer to domestic and international audiences.
A notable example was the Ban Flower Festival 2026, which featured a series of cultural and tourism activities, as well as an exhibition space with 193 booths representing more than 100 organizations, including the Royal Thai Embassy in Hanoi. The event provided a platform to showcase Điện Biên’s historical and cultural values, signature products, and the warmth of its people. The festival’s appeal was reflected in the province welcoming more than 76,000 visitors, a 152% increase compared to 2025, while tourism revenue exceeded VND 121 billion, up 132%.
Beyond in-person events, the image of Điện Biên has also spread widely through digital platforms. The rapid growth of social media networks such as Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube has created effective and far-reaching channels for promotion. Keeping pace with this trend, the province has accelerated its digital communications efforts, producing modern tourism promotion content and collaborating with media agencies, content creators, travel bloggers, and social media influencers to introduce the beauty of this historic land to broader audiences.
The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with Vitamin Network Media Co., Ltd. for the 2026-2030 period, aiming to widely promote the brand message: “Điện Biên - An epic of history, a cultural identity, and a destination of unique experiences.” The partnership focuses on developing networks of KOLs, KOCs, and local content creators; applying AI, Big Data, and digital platforms in tourism and cultural promotion; and mobilizing social resources to bring the image of Điện Biên to domestic and international travelers.
Initial results were clearly evident during the Ban Flower Festival 2026. Nearly 100 news posts and videos produced by Vitamin Network and content creators attracted more than 33,000 shares and nearly 25 million views. The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s fanpage alone generated more than 30,000 likes, 21,000 shares, and nearly 2 million views through 45 festival-related posts, photos, and videos. More than 20 videos on the TikTok channel “Điện Biên ngày mới” (A new day in Điện Biên) reached around 200,000 views, while over 400 articles published across affiliated websites and fanpages generated more than 10 million interactions.
Điện Biên’s growing appeal stems not only from its cultural identity but also from improvements in infrastructure and tourism services. The province has focused on investing in infrastructure, enhancing accommodation quality, and developing new tourism products linked to community-based cultural experiences and historical exploration. Heritage tours combined with nature and indigenous cultural experiences have become increasingly attractive options for visitors. During the 2021-2025 period, the province welcomed more than 5.45 million visitors and generated tourism revenue exceeding VND 9.4 trillion.
Investment promotion has also been closely integrated with the province’s image-building efforts. A prime example was the Điện Biên Investment Promotion Conference 2026, held under the theme “Điện Biên - A strategic destination for investment,” which became a key event in showcasing the province’s investment environment and development opportunities.
At the conference, provincial authorities granted investment approvals and investment registration certificates to 11 investors with a combined registered capital exceeding VND 48.32 trillion. In addition, 22 memoranda of understanding were signed with major corporations and enterprises. These achievements demonstrate Điện Biên’s increasing attractiveness and reinforce its image as a dynamic province with substantial potential and a strong commitment to supporting investors.
What truly distinguishes Điện Biên, however, is not only its promotional campaigns or large scale events, but also the sincerity and hospitality of its people.
Lò Thị Kim Tính, owner of a homestay in Phiêng Lơi village, Điện Biên Phủ ward, shared: “Visitors come here not only to enjoy the scenery or learn about history, but also to experience the daily life and culture of local people. That is why we always welcome guests with genuine hospitality, introduce them to the unique cultural traditions of our ethnic group, and create an atmosphere that makes them feel as if they were in their own home.”
Nguyễn Thị Hằng, a visitor from Ho Chi Minh City, said: “I first learned about Điện Biên through history books, but only after visiting did I truly appreciate its natural beauty, cultural diversity, and especially the friendliness and hospitality of its people. These are the reasons why I want to return and recommend Điện Biên to my friends and relatives.”
Through coordinated promotional efforts and the active participation of local residents, the image of Điện Biên continues to spread ever more widely. Beyond being a land of glorious historical significance, Điện Biên is increasingly establishing itself as an attractive destination rich in cultural identity and development potential, steadily drawing new resources, expanding partnerships, and deepening its integration with the wider world.
