Boonlue Thamtharanurak, Deputy Governor of Chiang Mai province, alongside representatives of relevant agencies and units, received and held talks with the delegation.

At the working session, both parties discussed and agreed on orientations to advance the signing of an Agreement on the Establishment of Twinning Relations between Điện Biên province and Chiang Mai province, laying the groundwork for expanding exchanges and cooperation across multiple domains, with an immediate focus on culture, tourism, and regional connectivity.

Within the program’s framework, the delegation of Điện Biên province surveyed several tourist destinations, tourism service facilities, and international travel enterprises in Chiang Mai province, learning about organizational models, market exploitation approaches, and expertise in enhancing service quality. Through the survey, the delegation gathered practical information to support research and application in advancing provincial tourism products, routes, and destinations.

The two sides also discussed measures to boost cross-border tourism cooperation, link localities and enterprises, promote products and destinations, and research the development of connected Việt Nam - Laos - Thailand tourism programs and routes, aligned with road tourism routes passing through the Tây Trang International Border Gate.

The delegation of Điện Biên province also proposed strengthening cooperation in training and fostering tourism human resources, alongside studying the feasibility of launching direct flights between Điện Biên and Chiang Mai to shorten travel time, facilitate tourists and travel agencies, and expand market outreach.

The working visit in Chiang Mai province concluded the series of exchange, survey, and cooperation promotion activities undertaken by the delegation of Điện Biên province. The outcomes of the visit help establish a foundation to advance and coordinate the implementation of the Việt Nam - Laos - Thailand overland route via the Tây Trang International Border Gate, concretizing plans to develop tourism in the upcoming period.

Concurrently, enhancing friendship and cooperation between the provinces provides additional momentum to drive socioeconomic development throughout the region.
