Creating momentum for Điện Biên tourism

ĐBP - Working toward the objective of establishing the “Điện Biên Tourism Development Alliance,” the province is progressively connecting management agencies, businesses, communities, and culture and arts clubs into a unified network to share resources and link products.

Each destination is tapped according to its unique strengths, complementing one another to step-by-step build a diverse tourism ecosystem and boost appeal for Điện Biên tourism.

Recently, under the auspices of the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, enterprises, hotels, clubs, and community-based tourism villages across provincial localities signed a Memorandum of Understanding on coordinating tourism development and organizing cultural, artistic, and sporting activities serving tourism. This effort aims to rally available resources and create cohesion among entities participating in the tourism value chain.

Under the memorandum, the parties will enhance coordination in developing tourism products and services, conducting promotions and marketing, connecting markets, and attracting visitors. In this framework, culture is identified as a vital linchpin. Programs featuring folk songs, traditional dances, folk music, traditional crafts, ethnic costumes, musical instruments, gastronomy, and OCOP products are linked with tourist areas, attractions, lodging facilities, restaurants, walking streets, and night markets, helping generate experiences infused with local identity. The Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism serves as the focal coordinator to guide, facilitate, and advance cooperation among participants.

Artistic exchanges unfold at Mường Thanh Walking Street, Điện Biên Phủ ward.

Trần Hải Hà, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, noted that the essential factor is rallying existing resources into collective strength. The province aims to establish an intra-provincial tourism development alliance where enterprises, communities, clubs, and various actors connect and support one another. Each participant possesses unique advantages, which, when linked, will forge continuous, comprehensive products that enhance destination appeal.

One space clearly demonstrating such linkages is Mường Thanh Walking Street. On Friday and Saturday evenings, this venue serves as a familiar cultural and artistic exchange hub, engaging clubs, dance troupes, and performing artists. The Walking Street Management Board receives registrations and coordinates program curation; each session concludes with bamboo pole dancing and a solidarity xòe circle dance, opening a communal space for residents and travelers to take part together.

Dương Thị Thu Vân from the Mường Thanh Walking Street Management Board shared that the board envisions the walking street not merely as an entertainment venue, but as an arena showcasing local culture and drawing travelers. Joining this collaborative network offers opportunities to coordinate with clubs, artisans, and organizations to hold richer activities. The participation of diverse forces will help the walking street become an attractive stopover for visitors to explore and experience.

From the perspective of performing clubs, this coordination generates broader performance spaces to serve residents and travelers. Nguyễn Tiến Đôn, Head of the Điện Biên Dance Sport Club, stated that the club currently comprises over 130 members across various age groups. The club endorses the guideline of establishing a tourism development alliance. Participating in this network affords the club opportunities to perform, exchange, hone stage skills, and cultivate a lively atmosphere across destinations, thereby helping promote the image of a friendly and hospitable Điện Biên.

To anchor coordination in practice, participating entities have set up a shared communication channel on Zalo, enabling clubs, artisans, and business establishments to exchange information, register demands, and explore cooperation opportunities. While each side holds distinct advantages and contribution methods, uniting toward a common goal provides individual values with greater avenues to spread. From weekend cultural programs to activities across community-based tourism villages, each operational linkage helps guide fragmented resources into a shared current.

Establishing the “Điện Biên Tourism Development Alliance” remains an upcoming milestone. Yet from the linkages forged today, involved entities are helping lay the groundwork for a new approach where each destination maximizes its distinctive strengths, each unit contributes its share, and all are situated within a shared network where values complement one another, ripple outward, and collectively generate magnetic appeal for Điện Biên tourism.
