Attracting tourists to conquer the nation’s Westernmost point

ĐBP - During the four-day holiday spanning April 30 and May 1, a significant number of residents and tourists embarked on a journey to conquer the Westernmost point of the Fatherland.

The primary highlights of this adventure were the A Pa Chải Flagpole and the sacred Milestone 0, located within Sín Thầu commune, Điện Biên province. Local authorities and the A Pa Chải Border Post have proactively facilitated conditions to encourage visitors to explore this unique tri-border junction where Vietnam, Laos, and China meet.

According to statistics provided by the A Pa Chải Border Post under the Provincial Border Guard Command, approximately 500 residents and tourists were assisted in visiting and conquering both the flagpole and Milestone 0 between April 30 and May 2. This steady stream of visitors underscores the growing appeal of frontier tourism in the region.

Residents and tourists conquer Border Marker 0 at the border junction of Vietnam, Laos, and China.

The A Pa Chải Flagpole, which began construction in November 2023, sits atop a peak 1,459m high in the Khoang La San mountain range. It is situated roughly 1,387m from Border Marker 0, the actual geographical intersection of the three nations. With the flagpole and its auxiliary structures on the ascent route now largely completed, the journey for travelers has become significantly more convenient and safer than in previous years.

To support these visitors, the officers and soldiers of the A Pa Chải Border Post have been actively involved in guiding and assisting with registration and scheduling, ensuring total safety throughout the expedition. Beyond logistics, the border guards also serve as onsite guides, introducing the historical and sovereign significance of the A Pa Chải Flagpole and Border Marker 0 to the public.

Conquering these landmarks allows citizens and tourists to gain a deeper appreciation for the nation’s historical values and provides a practical lesson in revolutionary traditions for the younger generation. Furthermore, the rising interest in this remote destination is opening up new opportunities for sustainable tourism development within the local community.
